Ella I. Hagen Kalinowski, 93, of Brainerd, MN, formerly of Maddock and Devils Lake, ND, died Saturday at the Bethany Good Samaritan Home in Brainerd, MN where she had been a resident since July of 2011. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 14th, 2012, St. Olaf Lutheran Church rural Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church an hour before the service.
Ella was born July 30, 1919 in rural Minnewaukan, the daughter of Elmer and Ida Ellingson. She was reared and educated there, attending school in Minnewaukan. Ella was united in marriage to Orville J. Hagen, March 4, 1940. They were blessed with four sons: Robert, John, Steven and James. Orville passed away in 1955.
Ella was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake for 55 years. After moving to Maddock in 2003, she joined St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Minnewaukan and was a member of the WELCA and VFW Auxiliary. She worked in food service for 25 years at Prairie View Elementary School in Devils Lake.
Ella was united in marriage to Patrick Kalinowski in 1962. He remained the love of her life for 39 years.
Ella is survived by her son Steve Hagen and his wife, Elyse, and their sons, David (Heidi), John and Craig; her son Jim Hagen and his wife Joan, and his sons, Mark and Jeff; her daughter-in-law: Sally Hagen and her daughters, Michelle (Jon Goetze) and Dyana; her daughter-in-law, Suzi Hagen as well as four great-grandchildren Samuel, John, Evelyn and Brennan Hagen. Ella is also survived by sisters, Caroline Haugen and Anna Mae Prichard and a brother, Vernon Ellingson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Orville and Patrick; sons Robert and John; grandson, Peter and daughter-in-law, Sandy.
Ella was my wonderful friend and co worker for many years. Ella,Gladys,Orpha and I had a great time working together There are so many GOOD memories.I know she will be missed, our throughts and prayers are with all of the family that she was so proud of and loved so much. Betty Veer
