Walter A. Winson, 75, of Maddock, ND died Monday, April 9, 2012, at his home in Maddock. Memorial Services will be Friday, July 20th, 2012, 2:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Brethren Church in Maddock with Pastor Luther Mathison officiating. Urn bearer will be Kevin Winson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Music will be from Kathy Daeley, pianist. Memorial visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.
Walter Alvin Winson was born February 7, 1937 on the farm near Fingal, ND in Barnes County to Olaf and Cora (Oakland) Winson. He was raised near Oriska, ND, and graduated from the Valley City High School in May of 1956. Walter and Donna Mae Mattern were married October 25, 1958 at Rugby, ND. The couple moved to Maddock in 1958 where Walter worked for he Burlington Northern Railroad first on the section crew and later as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1990.
Walter was baptized at Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Church near Valley City on July 18, 1937 and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City on June 1, 1951. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and swimming with is family.
Surviving are 2 daughters: Denise Lommen of Superior, MT & Desiree (Leroy) Wentz of Devils Lake; 2 sons: Kevin Winson of Devils Lake & Keith Winson (fiancé, Laura Every) of Maddock; 5 grandchildren: Chad (Amy) Lommen, Corey (Stacey) Wentz, Kristy Wentz, Brandon Wentz & Jessica Winson; 6 great-grandchildren: Anthony, Taylor & Blaine Wentz, Andrew, Emma & Gunnar Lommen; 2 sisters: Deloris Compson of Wahpeton, ND and Irene Handt of Valley City, ND; a sister-in-law: Kathy Winson of Jamestown, ND and a number of nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Oral and Lloyd Winson, 2 sisters: Charlotte (Andrew) Erickson and Ruby (George) Culver.
