A. Sanfrid Anderson, 80, of Leeds, ND,  died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Edmore Memorial Home in Edmore, ND.  Funeral Services will be Friday, April 25th, 2014  2:00 PM at Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Budd officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, from 4 to 7 PM followed by a 7:00 PM Prayer Service all at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.

Arlen Sanfrid Anderson was born December 24th, 1933 to Abel and Seena (Nielsen) Anderson.  He was born SW of Leeds on what is now the Erie farm in the middle of a Christmas Eve blizzard.  Sanfrid attended School in York through 8th grade and then went to Leeds and graduated in 1951. In high school he was active in the FFA and as a young man was an active member of the Leeds Rod and Gun Club. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Leeds Lutheran Church.  Sanfrid began  farming with his father as a boy and took over the family farm when his father passed away.  On October 25th, 1958 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Avis Marie Conway.  The couple made their home west of Leeds on the farm where Sanfrid had lived since he was 7 months old.  It was there that they raised their four children: Alan, Arlen, David and Sandra.  Sanfrid was dedicated to his farm where he raised small grains and cattle.  In the early 80's Sanfrid began driving bus for the Leeds Public School which was something he truly enjoyed and continued doing for over twenty years.  In 1992 Sanfrid retired from farming himself but continued to work in the area for other farmers.  Sanfrid also served as the Secretary and Director of the  Farmers Co-op Elevator of Leeds for thirty years.

Sanfrid had many hobbies over the years.  He enjoyed working on various projects and was always tinkering on something.  Sanfrid carved and stained several beautiful diamond willow canes and walking sticks.  He was a member of the Amateur HAM Radio Club and could manage to get almost any old radio to function again.  He loved nature and appreciated watching all the wildlife in the area.  He also had a nice collection of Indian hammer heads and arrowheads that he had found over the years.

Sanfrid and Avis lived on the farm until health issued prompted a move to an apartment in Leeds.  Following Avis's death February 26th, 2011, Sanfrid had short stays at Heartland Court and Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake. Then in September, 2012, he made the move to his final home at the Edmore Memorial Rest Home in Edmore where he made several new and dear friends.  Sanfrid will be remembered for his love and gentle kindness to everyone he knew.  His smile could brighten anybody's day!

Surviving is his children: Arlen (Andrea) Anderson of Devils Lake, ND, David Anderson of Rugby, ND and Sandra (Rick) Knoke of Edmore, ND;  grandchildren: Wyatt, Madison, and Cassidy Knoke and Bailey Anderson; and a sister:  Linnea Anderson of East Grand Forks, MN.

Preceding him in death:  parents, an infant brother and sister, son Alan in 2001, and wife Avis.

Sometimes when words cannot comfort us in the time of our loss the thought that he is now in Heaven with Avis whom know he missed very much is a comfort.
