Adeline L. Elverud, 85, Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Cando and Leeds, ND, died peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Eventide Heartland Care Center's Memory Unit in Devils Lake, ND. Her final days were spent surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Leeds Lutheran Church in Leeds, ND with Pastor Elaine Sveet officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery.
Adeline was born July 25, 1932 at home near Hamlet, ND to Anders and Gudrun (Birkelo) Svendsbye. She was baptized and confirmed at Grong Lutheran Church. She attended school at McGregor, graduating at the top of her class. She attended Concordia College where she earned her teaching certificate.
Adeline taught briefly in Drayton where a fellow teacher friend introduced her to her brother, Harry, who quickly became the love of her life. She also taught in Egeland for a time, after she and Harry were married.
Adeline and Harry were united in marriage June 7, 1953 at Leeds Lutheran Church. Here they made their home on the family farm and raised their six children. In addition to raising her children and helping on the farm, Adeline also worked as a school bus driver, substitute rural mail carrier, and in the years after Harry died, a certified nursing assistant until the age of 75.
Over the years, Adeline stayed busy with community and church activities. Her most prized title was "Grandma". She spent many hours traveling to and from all the activities that her grandchildren were participating in.
Adeline is survived by her children Brian of Leeds, Dale (Connie) of Leeds, Jayne (Tony) Nieman of Calvin, Alan (Melanie) of Leeds, Julie (Paul) Christenson of Churchs Ferry; daughters-in-law Bobbie Elverud Bock of Fargo and Shelli Elverud of Fargo; grandchildren: David (Lisa), Jesse (Jess), Brandon (Chris), Jessica, Patrick (Kerrie), Amie (Kenton), Josh (Tina), Nathan, Seth (Amy), Jeremy (Jacelyn), Brady, Bethany (Ben), Tawny, and Taylor (Chelsie); 25 great-grandchildren (with the 26

due in the fall); sister- Jean (Marlowe) Brusven; and numerous others.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents- Anders and Gudrun; mother and father in-law- Marie and Iver; son- Neil; daughter in-law- Kellie; granddaughter- Savanna; and numerous others.
