Agnes G. Paulson, age 92, of West Fargo, formerly of Devils Lake and Maddock,  beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away at the home of her daughter in West Fargo, ND on Monday, August 24th, 2009 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Agnes Grenora Liudahl was born September 30, 1916, in Esmond, North Dakota to Marie and Nelius E. Liudahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Esmond and attended the Isabel Consolidated School.  She was raised in a family of nine brothers and sisters. She graduated from the Benson County Agricultural & Training School at Maddock in 1934.  Agnes married Manley I. Paulson on April 7, 1940 at North Viking Lutheran Church at Maddock. The couple farmed near Maddock.  During these years she was an active farmer's wife and member of Viking Lutheran Church participating in its Ladies Aid, as a Sunday School teacher, and church music. A daughter, Marilyn, was born in 1943.  The family moved to Maddock in 1956 where she worked at the BCATS, Maddock Hospital, Farmers Union, and after work, gave many piano lessons.  Her husband, Manley, died on September 20, 1963.  Agnes later moved to Devils Lake where she was employed at the School for the Deaf, ASCS Office and Ramsey County Court House. She retired in 1983.  During her years in Devils Lake she was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, WELCA, choir, quilters group and a volunteer in the community.  She lived for a short time at Lake Country Manor in Devils Lake and celebrated her 90th birthday at St Olaf Lutheran Church. She then became a resident at Eventide Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN, and in February of 2008, resided with her daughter and son–in-law in West Fargo, ND.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Manley, her sisters, Miranda (Dan) Sleiter, Nina (Gilbert) Hillestad, Marie Hunter, her brothers, Norman (Geoline) Liudahl, Ove (Thelma) Liudahl, Reuben, Albert and Harold (Agnes) Liudahl, brothers-in-law Henning Paulson, Alvin Paulson, and sister-in-law Beatrice (Melvin) Simonson.

She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Myron) Gerdon of West Fargo; much-loved grandchildren, Merri Jo (Michael) Filloon of West Fargo; Monty Gerdon of Fargo, and dear great grandchildren  Lexie,  Josie and Gage Filloon. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Robert Hunter of Maddock, sisters-in law, Shirley Liudahl of Devils Lake, Carmen Paulson and Ruby Liudahl both of Maddock and many special nieces and nephews.

Agnes greatly enjoyed opportunities to gather with her family over the years just to visit, enjoy holidays or remember special events in their lives. Her interest in vocal and instrumental music continued throughout her life as well as sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter and son-in-law during her retirement years. Agnes will be greatly missed by her family and friends, as someone loved is never lost and she was loved so much.

VISITATION:  Friday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock

PRAYER SERVICE:  Friday  7:00 PM in the funeral home.

INTERMENT:  Saturday, August 29th  2009,  1:00 PM at Viking Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock

MEMORIAL SERVICE:  Saturday, August 29, 2009,  2:00 PM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor  Allen Campbell and Pastor Harold Ovre officiating.

Casket bearers will be:  Curtis Liudahl,  Robert Liudahl,  Leslie Liudahl,  Keith Liudahl,  Michael Paulson,  Kim Paulson and  Lynn Paulson.   All of Agnes's nieces and nephews will be considered honorary bearers

Dear Marilyn,
We were so sorry to read in the Fargo Forum that your mother had passed away. We remember what a whole-hearted supporter she was of the music program at BCATS. We also remember what a tremendous singer you were. The small woman with a big voice!
We recently moved into a retirement apartment after living in our own home ever since we moved to Fergus Falls. It was time to move, and we have no regrets.
We are always alert for news in the Forum about people from Maddock, but that is very limited. We trust that life is going well for you and that you are still singing!

Wow, will she be missed! A few years ago at Eventide I really enjoyed our little visits in the mornings helping her get ready for the day. After she moved in with you, Marilyn it was fun to see her and catch up as you two came out to eat at Red Lobster. My sympathies to your family. May God provide you comfort in these difficult times :)
