Alfred Fredrickson, 91, of Lakota, formerly of Devils Lake and Leeds, ND, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, in Lakota, ND.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 4th, 2009, 11:00 AM  at Leeds Lutheran Church in Leeds with Pastor Don Reynolds officiating, with a eulogy by Jan Legacie and a reading from Jesa Legacie.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Military Rites will be accorded by the Leeds American Legion Post #101 and the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post #757 of Harlow, ND.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to7pm with a 7pm Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.

Casket bearers will be:  Rudi Bloomquist,  Leslie Haagenson,  Robert Hurdelbrink,  Curtis Jorgenson,  James Legacie,  Magnus Lysne,  Robert Selland and Boyd Stevenson.

Music will be from Debra Schueller, vocalist with Jennifer Hagen, organist.


Alfred George Fredrickson was born April 10th, 1918 to Tom and Nora (Vorland) Fredrickson in Corinth, ND.  He graduated from Crosby, ND High School in 1937.  In 1942, Alfred entered the U.S. Navy with the Seabees in the Pacific area.  He took part in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II and was discharged in 1945.  Alfred married Luella Olson in 1947 at the Round Prairie Lutheran Church, in rural Williston, ND.  He then purchased the grocery store in Corinth, ND, and operated it for 11 years.  Alfred and family moved to Leeds, ND in 1963, and purchased the Red Owl grocery store. He retired from the Red Owl in 1983, and continued to live in Leeds until 1999, when he moved to Devils Lake, ND.  In 2008, Alfred and Luella moved to Lakota Good Samaritan Center, where he was well cared for during his last year.

Alfred was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church,  Leeds American Legion Post #101, the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post #757 of Harlow, ND,  Iwo Jima Veterans Association,  Prairie Partners Square Dance Club, Leeds Lions Club,  Fire Dept., Ambulance Service, and City Council.  Alfred enjoyed square dancing, camping, golf, attending Leeds Basketball games, traveling the U.S., a good cup of coffee, watching his son in Special Olympics, and attending his daughter and son-in-law's curling events.

Loving family members include his wife of 61 years, Luella; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Garland Legacie of Edmore ND; and grandchildren,  Jade Hanson of Denver, CO, Brooke Legacie of Grand Forks, ND,  and Jesa Legacie of Edmore ND.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and a son, Dean.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. Our sympathy to you all.
It has been many years since you came to Corinth with your folks. Much has changed since then. The store building is no longer livable, but my folks enjoyed living there for quite a few years. There are only three families here now. Becky Clark(Ida Johnson's granddaughter)and her husband, Orris Herland and his wife and Melvin and I.
