Alice Rose Wack, 93, of Esmond, ND passed away Friday, July 24, 2026 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 1, 2026 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with Fr. Steven Wirth celebrating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by Rosary and Vigil Service Friday, July 31, 2026 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to the St. Boniface Church for use as a memorial mass, cemetery upkeep, or church upkeep: 180 Alta Avenue North Esmond, ND 58332.

Alice Rose Martian Wack was born May 2, 1933 to Anton and Ann (Hoffner) Martian in Esmond and was the ninth of fourteen children. She attended a country school in North Fork, growing up, attending through the eighth grade. Alice lived in a sod house on her parents’ farm almost until she was married.

Alice was united in marriage to James “Jimmy” Wack of Selz, ND on October 25, 1951. They lived on Jimmy’s parent’s farm for almost ten years, and then moved to Esmond in 1963. To this union, the couple welcomed ten children: Beverly Wack-Resinger-Jameson, Anthony Wack, Rosie Wack, Mark Wack, Richard Wack, Connie Wack-Keller, Joel Wack, Faye Wack-Mertens, Mary Wack, and Darla Wack-McDonald. All were born at either Harvey or Maddock hospitals. Alice and Jimmy had (25) grandchildren, (49) great-grandchildren, and now 1 great-great-grandchild; making it five generations of family members.

When the family moved to Esmond, Alice became very busy. She taught CCD for several years, mostly for 1st graders, served on the lady’s aid at the church, spent years saying the rosary before masses, baked many baked goods for bake sales over the years, and sold Amway for many years. She was a cook at high school for four years. She worked as a cook at the Legion and Café in Maddock. She belonged to Christian Mothers, Senior Citizens, and my familyJ.

Alice always had lovely, sizable gardens she loved to work in, and her children and grandchildren would help her. She always had flowers around her house and yard. She assisted when they built the park in town. Jimmy was the overseer of the park. He hurt his back and couldn’t do too much.

Her hobbies are anything related to crafts, like crochet, adult coloring, and making Afghans. Alice made Afghans for every one of her children and grandchildren. If she missed someone, she said she couldn’t be held responsible because she was old! J.

Alice has been living in Esmond since 1960. She lost her husband, Jimmy, in 2001. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, 12 of her 14 siblings, her husband Jimmy, daughter Rosie and son Richard.

She had a great sense of humor all the way up to the end and made many good friends over the years living in Esmond. She wanted to thank everyone for their friendship and looking out for her in later years.
