Anna Julia Harmon, 89, of Maddock, ND passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at St. Williams Catholic Church in Maddock, ND with Fr. Brian Bachmeier celebrating the mass. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00PM Monday, January 23, 2017 at the church with a 7:00PM Rosary followed by a 7:30PM Vigil Service. Burial will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Maddock, ND in the spring.

Anna was born December 9, 1927 to Jacob and Frances (Bachmeier) Schmitt in Orrin, ND. She was raised on the family farm in Orrin and attended country school. Anna married Jacob Schneider and from this union, six children were born: Gloria, Betty, Anna, James, Hilda and Nancy. Anna married Chester Harmon on December 22, 1967 in New Rockford and from this union, five children were born: Rodger, Peggy, Sandra, Lori and Lisa. The couple lived in serval locations before settling in Maddock.

Anna's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. She was a very hard worker and enjoyed decorating her yard with flowers and ornaments. Trimming trees, gardening, showing off her extravagant Christmas display and her little dog and faithful companion, Johnnie, brought her much joy.

Anna is survived by her children, Gloria (Fred) Vetsch of Rugby, ND, Betty Crews of Tipton, MO, Anna Kranig of Cathay, ND, James (Carol) Schneider of Hamberg, ND, Hilda Lesmeister of Mandan, ND, Nancy (Ken Allerd) Hoffert of Bottineau, ND, Rodger (Teresa) Harmon of Surrey, ND, Peggy Dalton of New Haven, MI, Sandra (Keith) Coleman of Aneta, ND, Lori (Jon) Schmidt of Aurora, CO and Lisa Harmon of Maddock, ND; 36 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; sister, Alice Hatten of Orlando, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Frances (Bachmeier) Schmitt; husband, Chester Harmon; brothers, John Schmitt and Phillip Schmitt; a sister, Florence Bachmeier; step brother, Wendelin Black; sons-in-law, Eugene Black, Jerry Crews, Don Kranig and Dale Lesmeister; grandchildren, Eugene Black Jr. and Brenda Humble; great grandsons, Joseph Vetsch and Christopher Kranig.
