Ardys C. Schmid, 83, of Minnewaukan, ND, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. Memorial Services will be Monday, June 16, 2014, 2:00 PM at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Luther Mathison officiating. Burial will be in the Minnewaukan Cemetery.  Urn Bearers will be her grandchildren:  Anthony Schmid and Alyssa Schmid.  Music for the service will be from Claudette Carlson, soloist with Fay Huffman, organist.

Ardys Coral Schmid was born December 16, 1930 in Harlow, ND, the daughter of Murphy and Esther (Rask) Christensen.  The family moved to Minnewaukan in 1933, where Ardys attended school and graduated as salutatorian in 1949 from the Minnewaukan High School. She then worked at the Register of Deeds office in the Benson County Courthouse.  Ardys married Gordon R. Schmid on June 8, 1952.  She was employed at the, M.C. Hiaasen law office in Minnewaukan for 30 years.  Ardys then did tax work at home.

Ardys was a lifelong member of the Minnewaukan Presbyterian Church. She was active in Sunday school, Women's Association and served as church treasurer for over 25 years.  Ardys also was a member of the Town and Country Homemakers Club in Minnewaukan.  She loved yard work, gardening, helping during harvest, collecting recipes and her large collection of angels. Ardys loved crossword puzzles and was an avid reader until developing Macular Degeneration.  In 2007, she was involved in a motor vehicle accident and spent much time in the hospital and nursing homes.

Surviving are her husband, Gordon; sons:  Gordon P. and his wife, Paula, of Devils Lake and Rodger K. of Fargo;  2 grandchildren:  Anthony Gordon Schmid and Alyssa Marie Schmid;  3 step-grandchildren:  Laurie Henry,  Jennifer White and Steven Daniels; 7 step-great-grandchildren;  a brother:  Dean of Dickinson, ND;  several nieces and nephews; 2 sisters-in-law:  Lucille Westby of Maddock and Gwen Christensen of Chandler, AZ and special friend:  Sherri Thompson of Minnewaukan.

Preceding her in death were her parents; 2 brothers:  Garry and Buell Christensen; and a brother-in-law:  Clifford Westby.

I am so sorry to hear of Ardys' passing.  She was a good friend through the years.  I enjoyed our last visit together two years ago.  Ardys was such a help to my mother when she did her taxes for her.  I know Mom (Lena Pederson) relied on her and Ardys never let her down.  I know she will be missed by all but especially her family.  Gordie, my thoughts are with you!  Sincerely, Dorothy Jean.
