Arland Emery Halvorson, 85, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly of Leeds, ND, passed away at the Good Samaritan Society in Devils Lake, ND on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 6:00PM with a Prayer Service starting at 5:00PM Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds, ND with Pastor Michael Rohrer officiating. Burial will take place following the service at 6:30PM at the Lebanon Free Lutheran Cemetery in Brinsmade, ND.
Arland Emery Halvorson was born October 6, 1930 in Churches Ferry, ND to George and Olga (Ericksmoen) Halvorson. He was raised and educated in the rural Lake Ibson Township. Arland farmed all his life and was successful in his farming venture. He married Violet Johnson on June 19, 1987 at the Lebanon Free Lutheran Church in Leeds, ND and they farmed in Normania Township. Violet passed away on February 22, 2010.
Arland was active in the Lebanon Free Lutheran Church and was on the Township Board. He was a collector of guns and showed his gun collection at gun shows throughout North Dakota, winning many trophies over the years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed farming, driving around in the country and being close to the land.
Arland is survived by his brothers, Gerald Halvorson of Paynesville, MN, Richard (Sharon) Halvorson of Leander, TX and Larry (Betty) Halvorson of West Fargo, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olga Halvorson; his wife, Violet; and his brothers, Harold and Darwin Halvorson.
