Obituary

Arlene H. Lybeck, 83, of Esmond, ND, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, ND. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, ND with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in rural Esmond, ND.

Arlene Harriet Stadum was born August 28, 1932 on the Stadum family farm in the Isabel Township in rural Esmond, ND to Andrew and Hannah (Hovland) Stadum. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Esmond, ND. Arlene attended grade school in Isabel Township and she graduated from the Benson County Agricultural Training School in Maddock, ND in 1950. She went on to graduate from the Trinity Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1953 and was employed at the Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND from 1953 to 1963.

Arlene married Victor Lybeck on October 14, 1956 at the Bethany Lutheran Church near Esmond, ND. She moved back to the family farm in 1963 where she spent the next 52 years as a wife, mother, homemaker and neighborhood caretaker to anyone who needed a Band-Aid. In 1979, Arlene re-entered the Nursing Profession that she loved and was employed as a staff nurse at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND until retiring in 1998. Arlene was very active in Immanuel and Trinity Lutheran Church, both Esmond and Maddock school alumni groups and her local community.

Arlene was a very hospitable lady; she enjoyed serving lunch to neighbors, friends, relatives and anyone who would visit the family farm. She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, gardening and visiting with friends at the Esmond Cafe. She played a lead role in organizing the Esmond Ambulance Service where she volunteered her nursing skills for many years. Arlene was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Immanuel WELCA group, Sons of Norway and the Esmond Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 4251.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Victor; her children: Susan Zabel (Dennis Tuel) of Minneapolis, MN, Eric (Nancy) Lybeck of Idaho Falls, ID, Alan (Cindy) Lybeck of Minneapolis, MN and Paul (Linda) Lybeck of Leeds, ND; grandchildren: Hannah Zabel, Cara and Tim Lybeck, Clara, Andrew and Adam Lybeck, Katrina (Jason) Foster, Kaylee Lybeck and a sister Norma (Earl) Schmidt of Fergus Falls, MN.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Hannah Stadum and a sister Mavis Stadum (died at age 6).
