Arlene Gloria Warner, 94, of Maddock, ND passed away Monday, July 1, 2024 at St. Aloisius Hospital SMP in Harvey, ND. Burial will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Arlene Gloria Arne was born December 18, 1929 to Albert and Agnes (Hvinden) Arne in rural Viking Township in Benson County, on the Hvinden family farm. Her family lived on a farm in South Viking Township before moving to Chehalis, WA in 1938. Arlene attended Chehalis grade school for a short time, while her father worked in a logging camp. The family returned to North Dakota in 1939, living in western North Dakota, where Albert was employed on the Garrison Dam project. After settling back in the Maddock area, Arlene continued her education at the Flora country school and BCATS until the tenth grade.
Arlene was united in marriage to James E. Warner on August 10, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND, in a small ceremony with his sister and brother-in-law as attendants. Agnes had a luncheon for them afterwards, and then they went to Harlow where his folks had a wedding supper. The couple lived on the family farm in Butte Valley Township, near Brinsmade, and began farming and raising their family. To this union, the couple welcomed five children, Duane, Arden, Jimmy, Cheryl and Cindy.
Arlene and the family would travel to the southern states, where they were hired as custom combiners. Many great memories were created during the summer, as the family would travel and work side by side. She was also employed at Leonardo's in Cando and also at the Maddock Memorial Home. Arlene was very active at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Harlow, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school and Superintendent for over 15 years.
Arlene's greatest pastime was spent with her family. She attended every sporting event she could of her grandchildren, even re-watching previously recorded events. Arlene also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, embroidering, playing cards, dancing with her husband James and BINGO!
Arlene is survived by her children, Duane Warner of Maddock, Arden Warner (Linda Sorlie) of Rugby, Cheryl (Paul) Lunde of Maddock and Cindy (Keith) Smith of Maddock; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Deb Jacobson, Jerry (Pat) Arne and Sharon Smith; sister-in-law, Mary Blick; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James E. Warner; son, James 'Jimmy' M. Warner; brother, Gordon (Mavis); sister, Gloris; best friend and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Warner.
