Arlyce Loretta Liudahl was born on September 4, 1941, at the Maddock Hospital to Gladys (Ellingson) and Theodore Liudahl. She was the youngest of 12 children.

Arlyce grew up on the family farm in South Viking Township, south of Maddock, ND. Arlyce especially enjoyed the farm animals - sheep, pigs, horses, cattle, cats and dogs. She was very active and successful in 4-H. Arlyce was a successful showman of her lamb at the Benson County Achievement days. One year, the local paper reported “A GIRL, Arlyce Liudahl, is the new Champion Showman at the Benson County Achievement Days.”

Arlyce was baptized and confirmed at Viking Lutheran Church. She attended grade school at Quarve #3 schoolhouse in rural South Viking Township. She graduated from Benson County Agricultural and Training School (BCATS) in 1959. She attended Valley City State University for three years and received a two-year teaching degree. She then taught at Cathay. Arlyce also acquired some credits at Mayville State University to be a librarian and worked at the Mandan and Devils Lake libraries. Arlyce had several other various jobs that included childcare, housekeeping in a hospital and hotel, and a bakery.

Arlyce worked at a potato plant where she made several lifelong friends. She also worked as a telephone operator until she moved back to the family farm (age 28). Arlyce lived at the family farm until she became a resident of Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, ND (2001). Arlyce moved from Trinity to St. Aloisius Nursing home in Harvey, where she thrived. Arlyce was doing so well in Harvey, she moved to the Haaland Home in Rugby for a lesser level of care. When she started needing extra assistance again, she moved to the Heart of America Nursing home in Rugby, transitioning to the new living center on Highway 2 as one of 15 residents. Arlyce spent her last few months at St. Aloisius Nursing Home.

In Arlyce’s later years, she lived with limited mobility and significant pain due to Parkinson’s disease. She remained interested in community news and always requested updates on relatives and neighbors. Arlyce loved flowers, birds, butterflies, the color shades of aqua, purple and blue, pretty trinkets, chocolate (especially with mint), beer and tasting various spirits, day trips, and old-time country music.

Arlyce left this world on August 13, 2026, while holding hands with loved ones. Her family and others who loved her will miss her quick wit, humor, intelligence, love of animals, unique spirit and curiosity.

Arlyce is survived by her two remaining sisters, Darlene Erickson (Esmond, ND) and Beaulah Sears (West Fargo, ND), sister-in-law, Betty Liudahl (Virgil) (Kent, WA), many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Alryce was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Gladys (Ellingson) Liudahl, brothers, Ardell, Gorden, Lester, Kenneth, Roger, Virgil, Robert, and Mayo Liudahl and sister, Gloria (Liudahl) Nord. Sisters-in-law, Audrey Liudahl (Ardell), Carol Liudahl (Roger), Greta Liudahl Horton, Janet Liudahl (Robert) and brothers-in-law, Milton Erickson, Lyder Nord, and Ivan Sears. Nephews Ron Erickson, Marshall Liudahl, and Robbie Liudahl. Niece Linda (Nord) Schafer. Dear friend, Carole Lysne.

There will be a graveside service and celebration of life on August 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Viking Lutheran Church. Arlyce will be laid to rest in the family lot at the church cemetery ¾ of a mile west of the Liudahl farm, where she was raised and lived for many years. Everyone is invited to the church basement for light refreshments immediately following the service.
