Arthur C. Sorum's Obituary
Arthur was born to Otto and Margaret Sorum, November 14, 1914, in Hillsboro, ND. He married the love of his life, Nora Jean Hong of Buxton, ND on December 31, 1936. This wedding of hearts resulted in the births of the following six children: Janis, Jerry, Joel, Jeff, James, and Jack. Following his graduation, Art's adventurous spirit resulted in life as a hobo riding the rails to the West Coast and then back home. His love for railroads led him to work as a depot agent for the Great Northern Railroad for the remainder of his working life, retiring in 1975 after forty years.
No one was a stranger to Art and he wanted to make sure he would meet them again in heaven. Art was always kind and caring, respectful of all. Everyone was greeted and treated like a child of God. The coffee pot was always on and the door always open at the Sorum house. He and Nora showed heavenly compassion to so many neighbors to whom compassion had rarely been shown. Art had a love affair with adventure in life welcoming new and different challenges. Art and Nora's adventures led them to Norway, mission trips to Central and South America, numerous trips to the Yukon and Alaska, sailing trips in Northern California, and family fishing and hunting trips to Canada, Montana and western North Dakota. The adventures never took the place of family get togethers. Whether there were four family members for lunch or sixty members at Christmas, dad and mom were happiest when family was present.
Art was greeted in heaven by his wife of sixty years, Nora, and his parents and three brothers and one sister and daughter-in-law, Sue.
He is survived by six children, Janis, Jerry and Harriet, Joel, Jeff and Sue, Jim and Pat, Jack and Mari Don, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and five great-great grand children. Dad, we will forever be grateful for all you have taught us through your actions and your words. Your unconditional love will be with us always, and our love with you. You will be in our hearts forever. We are not saying goodbye; we will greet you in heaven.
The last two years of Art's life were greatly enhanced by the gracious care of the staff of the Anta Parkview Health Center in Aneta, ND.

Thursday, September 19th, 2012, at 11:00 AM at River Of Life Assembly of God church in Devils
Lake, ND
Burial: Churchs Ferry Cemetery, Churchs Ferry, ND.
Visitation: Wednesday, September 18, from 6pm to 7pm with a sharing time at 7:00 PM all at the River of Life Assembly of God church in Devils Lake, ND.
Memorials will be donated to missions that were important to Art and Nora.

Janis and the Sorum family. The last time I saw your Mom & Dad was at my Dad's funeral in 1998,and they were getting ready to go on a mission! My memories of Art are so wonderful. He had a fun laugh and always made a person feel good. I think of the many times we were at their home for Bible studies.
