Obituary

Baldwin Erickson, 83, of Maddock, ND passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND with his family by his side. A private family Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Music will also be provided by Pastor Allen Campbell. Burial will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Turtle Mountain, ND.

Baldwin Lavern Erickson was born October 24, 1933 in Esmond, ND to Ole and Regina (Reiger) Erickson. He grew up on his grandmother's farm and attended country school near Esmond. Baldwin graduated from the Benson County Agriculture and Training School in Maddock while he and his twin brother worked to pay for their education. After graduating high school, Baldwin worked to become a Mason and worked with cement blocks and bricks.

Baldwin met Laura Mahler in Bottineau, ND and the two were married on July 14, 1957. The couple moved to Lead, SD where Baldwin became employed at the Homestake Gold Mines. Baldwin completed meat cutting school and moved to Maddock where he managed a meat market before its closing. He then became a bulk truck driver for many years for Farmers Union Oil Company until his retirement.

Upon retiring, Baldwin and Laura traveled with two of their best friends to the East and West Coast of the United States among other places. Baldwin was a hard worker and enjoyed gardening and fixing anything he could. He was a member of the North Viking Lutheran Church and was once a volunteer firefighter for the Maddock Fire Department. Baldwin's favorite past time was spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Baldwin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Laura; sons, Kyle (Vernetta) Erickson of Maddock, ND, Kenneth (Connie) Erickson of Roosevelt, MN and Mark (Sissy) Erickson of New England, ND; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Vernon (Jean) Erickson of Bismarck, ND; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Regina (Reiger) Erickson; brothers, Robert, Ernest and twin brother Byron.
