Barry D. Grondahl, 81, of Maddock, ND passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Viking Lutheran Church in rural Maddock with Pastor Cassie Borges officiating.  Visitation will begin from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, January 21, 2022 at Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.  Burial will take place at Viking Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Viking Lutheran Church: P.O. Box 219 Maddock, ND 58348.

Barry Dale Grondahl was born July 10, 1940 to Iver and Inga (Flaskerud) Grondahl in Maddock, ND.  He was educated in Maddock, graduating from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School.  Barry furthered his education and attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND for one year.

Barry returned to Maddock and farmed with his family.  Barry was employed with Harvey Sand and Gravel in 1991 and continued with them until his retirement in 2018.

To Barry, his family was his world.  He always supported his children in their endeavors and was extremely proud of the lives they were building.  Being a Grandpa to 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren made him very happy.  He was happiest when his family was together.  Barry loved sports, and could often be found watching some sporting event on television.

Barry is survived by his children, Mike (Sylvia) Grondahl of Gold Canyon, AZ, Mark (Aundi) Grondahl of Puyallup, WA, Monte (Wanda) Grondahl of Gig Harbor, WA and Monica (Joel) Ellingson of West Fargo, ND; significant other, Gail Nelson; 11 grandchildren, Mikel (Mellissa) Grondahl, Barent Grondahl, Andrew (Shannon) Grondahl, Christian (Stacy) Grondahl, Derek (Bre) Grondahl, Nathan Grondahl, Kindra (Aaron) Hines, Tristin Grondahl, Ryan Ellingson, Joseph Ellingson and Bethany Ellingson; 11 great-grandchildren, Austin Grondahl, Ashley Grondahl, Sterling Grondahl, Brody Grondahl, Colton Grondahl, Sawyer Grondahl, Dalton Grondahl, Hudson Grondahl, Aspen Grondahl, Quinn Hines and Roman Hines; brother, Wendel (Gail) Grondahl; sisters, Gyneth (Jerry) Sheets and LaDonna (Richard) Dahlen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Iver and Inga Grondahl; and his grandparents.
