Obituary

Bennie Marquart, 86, of Maddock, ND, formerly of Esmond, died Monday, November 8th, 2010, at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 12, 2010,  1:00 PM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with Fr. Brian Bachmeier, celebrant.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 11am until the time of the mass.  Casket bearers will be:  Randy Keller,  Dale Sorenson,  Todd Sorenson,  Scott Sorenson,  Jeff Sorenson,  Bob Fritel,  Will Fritel and Fred Fritel.  Honorary bearers will be the staff and residents of the Maddock Memorial Home.  Music will be from the St. Boniface Choir with Helen Arnold, organist.

Bennie Marquart was born at Orrin, ND, the son of Balzer and Magdalena (Setter) Marquart.  The family moved to Esmond where Bennie was raised and attended school.  He then worked for area farmers for many years and later worked for the Benson County Highway Department for ten years.  Bennie married Elizabeth Fritel on November 5th, 1952 in Orrin, ND.  The couple made their home in Esmond.  Bennie and his brother-in-law,  Mike Fritel, cared for the St. Boniface and Trinity Lutheran Church cemeteries for many years and also for the lawns of many Esmond residents.  Elizabeth died March 18, 2001.  He became a resident at the Maddock Memorial Home in 2004.

Bennie was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond Knights of Columbus in Esmond and attended St. William Catholic Church in Maddock.  He was also a member of the Esmond Golden Age Club and the Rugby Eagles.  Bennie enjoyed playing cards, bingo, visiting and assembling puzzles.  Bennie will be remembered as a kind, gentle and softhearted man.

Surviving are brothers:  Leo Marquart of Maddock,  Joe (Darlene) Marquart of Devils Lake and John Marquart of Williston;  a number of nieces and nephews;  special brother-in-law and best friend:  Mike Fritel of Maddock;  brothers-in-law:  Nick (Teresa) Fritel of Rugby  and Conrad (Carol) Fritel of Stanley;  sisters-in-law:    Anna Mary Olderbak of Grand Forks and Phyllis Salwey of Williston.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  wife;  two sisters:  Kathryn Keller and Victoria Sorenson and an infant brother:  Tony Marquart.
