Bernadine (Bernie) Magdalena Kanzelman was peacefully welcomed to heaven on September 26, 2022. She was born on August 20, 1944 to Theodore and Magdalena (Burkhard) Volk in rural Minnewaukan. During her elementary school years, she attended the Eldon School and later graduated from Minnewaukan High School in 1962. She started working at the ASCS Office part time in Minnewaukan during her junior year. She worked off and on there for many years. Later, she worked as clerk at the Maddock School. In 1982 she started working at the Benson County Credit Union and remained employed there until she retired in 2018.
Bernie married George Kanzelman on May 15, 1965. They have 3 children, each of them thinking they were her favorite. Bernie loved spending time with her family. Every holiday was spent together as a family and numerous grandchildren sleep overs were had over the years. She traveled to multiple states and countries with her family and no matter what the adventure was, she was always game to go! Her two favorite sons-in-law often competed to ensure Bernie always had a fresh, hot cup of coffee when they were together. Her favorite saying was AIS – meaning if the car goes, I'll be in the seat! Bernie's lively and spirited personality made her the center of any family gathering. During her retirement years, Bernie enjoyed attending church, spending time with friends from church, and participating in book club.
Bernie is survived by her three children: Valorie (Jeffrey) Wright of Maddock, Sherri (Robert) Engkvist of Esmond, and Kevin Kanzelman of Las Vegas; three grandchildren that she treasured: Nikita (Nicholas) Kelly of Harvey, Natalia (Michael) Heck of Surrey, and Gannon (Dusty) Engkvist of Argyle, MN along with one cherished great-grandson, Phillip Kelly whom she loved to spend time with; two brothers: Jack (Charyl) Volk of Harvey, and David Volk of Minnewaukan.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents and five siblings: Daniel, Richard, Doreen, Delores, and Marie.
