Bernice J. (Hager) Summers, 64, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of the Esmond and Maddock, ND areas,  died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at her home.

Bernice Julianne Hager was born March 22, 1946 on the family farm in Pierce County, rural Esmond, ND, to Christ and Lucille (Rieger) Hager.  She was raised there, attended the Rosedale Township grade school and graduated from the Esmond High School in 1964.  Bernice attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and graduated from North Dakota State University at Fargo with a Degree in Architecture and Interior Design.  She moved to Kansas City, MO and worked as an office manager of an architectural firm until retiring.  Bernice was once married to Carter Summers.

Bernice enjoyed and had a natural talent for the fine arts of sculpting, painting, drawing, and sketching.  She loved all aspects of nature including trees, flowers, animals and all of the wonders of God's creation.

Surviving are her daughter:  Angie Summers of Maddock;  a grandson:  Cody Seelye of Fargo, ND;  her siblings:  Rose Buse of Bismarck, ND,  Darlene Hager of Grand Forks, ND, Ronald Hager of Rugby, ND,  Donald Hager of Larimore, ND,  Christ Hager, Jr. of Woodbury, MN,  Kenneth Hager of Washburn, ND and Randy Hager of Esmond, ND; a number of nieces and nephews and an aunt:  Lena Fettig in Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother:  William Hager.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Friday, July 23, 2010,  10:00 AM  at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, ND  with Fr. Brian Bachmeier, celebrant.

Rosary:    Thursday evening, 7:00 PM at the church.

Burial:   St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Esmond, ND

Visitation:  One hour before the Rosary and Mass at the church

I graduated with her in high school and never got to see her after graduation as we all go our separate ways. She was such a wonderful classmate. She was always so nice to me.
