Borgny Christina Teigen Violett, 96, of Inman, SC and formerly of Leeds, ND passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds, ND with Fr. Daniel Musgrave celebrating. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with Rosary beginning at 7:00PM and Vigil Service to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Leeds, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Borgny's name to the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 315 Central Avenue Leeds, ND 58346.
Borgny Christina Teigen was born Aug 13, 1926 to Norwegian immigrant parents, John and Marit (Dorheim) Teigen at their farm home near Tunbridge, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church near Tunbridge, attended parochial schools in the summers, was a member of the Luther League, sang in the church choir, and served as church organist during her teen years. She received her elementary education at country schools in Pierce County and graduated from Rugby High School in 1943, enrolling at Minot State College that summer.
Before turning 19, Borgny had received her two year Standard Life Teaching Certificate and had taught one year at a rural one room school in Pierce county, then went on to teach at Silva, Leeds, and Knox for five years. Before her marriage she also worked in the office at the Sears Roebuck store in Minot and typed oil leases at the Registrar of Deeds office at the Pierce County Courthouse in Rugby.
Borgny married Henry A. Violett of Leeds at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds on Nov 26, 1949, later joining that parish. She was a member of the Alter Society, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the choir. Henry owned and operated several gas stations and a garage in Leeds, and she assisted him in the business as well as the book keeper. They lived in Leeds for 60 years where they raised their two sons who also assisted in the family business. She was offered employment at the Farmer's State Bank in Leeds by Arne A Gregor and worked there for sixteen years. She also worked at Uniband the entire time they were located in Leeds, and later was offered a position at The Connection soon after it opened in Devils Lake and remained there until the business moved to another state.
Borgny was a member of Leeds American Legion Auxiliary, serving in capacities as President, Secretary, and Treasurer, the Harlow VFW Auxiliary, and a former member of the Modern Mrs. Homemaker Club. She and Henry enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Prairie Partners Square Dance Club of Devils Lake. They attended square dance conventions in North Dakota, South Dakota, Manitoba Canada, and Hawaii, as well as many club dances in North Dakota and Canada.
Borgny was preceded in death by husband Henry, her parents, a still-born daughter, her sister and husband Andrew and Clara Walters of Minnesota, her brother John of Rugby, sisters-in-law and husbands Georgia and Orvis Mickelson of Leeds and Viola and Jim Ostergard of Williston, brother-in-law and wife John J and Geri Violett of Wyndmere, and brother-in-law Maurice Larson of Iowa.
She is survived by her sons John T. and David G. (Tanya) of South Carolina, grandson Avery, granddaughter Heather, great-granddaughter Addilyn, sister Margit Larson of Maryland, and Dr. Edna and Daniel Holm of Fargo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
