Due to weather complications, Elaine's funeral service has been postponed from Thursday at 2:00 at Leeds Lutheran Church to Friday, December 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Leeds Lutheran Church.

C. Elaine Grise, 83, of Leeds, ND, died Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.  Funeral services will be Friday, December 17, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Leeds Lutheran Church in Leeds, with Pastor Richard Budd officiating.  Burial will be later in the spring in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7pm with a 7pm Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.   Casket bearers will be:  Kory Grise,  Byron Nelson,  Donnie Buchta,  Sam Samuelson,  Loren Stadig and Todd Thompson.

C. Elaine Thompson was born December 31, 1926 to Ernest and Fern (Camp) Thompson in Esmond, ND.  She was raised in Esmond and graduated from the Esmond High School in 1944.  Elaine attended Minot Teachers College and then graduated from Mayville State College.  She taught at a country school near Maddock and later taught at Baker, ND.  While in Baker, she met and married Earl R. Grise on December 28, 1948.  They were married for 61 years and from this union three children were born.  They lived with and worked for Ole Solberg for six years and then moved to the Henry Haugen farmstead southeast of Leeds and raised their family.  From 1955 to 1988, they remained on the farm until moving into Leeds in the fall of 1988.  Elaine was a very loving and caring mother.  She could always be counted on to write a weekly letter, send a card, picture or a kind word.  Her family and church were the center of her world.  When anyone stopped in, you were always asked to come in, sit, and have a cup of coffee with some fresh baked goodies to share or join them if it was at meal time.  Elaine enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, quilting at the church and the fellowship with the ladies following quilting.

Elaine was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for fifteen years and served as president of the WELCA a number of times.  Elaine and Earl served as the janitors of Leeds Lutheran for twenty-one years. She was also involved with her church circles and a member of the Brinsmade Homemakers Club.

She will be missed by her loving family,  husband:  Earl of Leeds;  sons:  Robert Grise and special friend, Kim Germain of Devils Lake and her family:  Patty Durbin,  Shara Benson and Julie Wissink;  Jeff (Sandy) Grise of Fargo;  daughter Mary Ann (Curtis) Kaiser of Streeter, ND;  5 grandchildren:  Kelly, Carrie, and Kory (Lindsey) Grise and Kelsey and Lacey Kaiser;  one great-grandchild:  Tyrell Terry;  a sister:  Dorothy (Melvin) Jensrud of Minot and a sister-in-law:  Donna Thompson of Fargo.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents;  a sister:  Louella Lysne;  a brother:  Ernest "Bud" Thompson;  a daughter-in-law:   AeSuk Yi "Sue" and a grandchild:  Corey Robert Grise.

Mom, we will miss you and love you, and you will remain in our hearts till we meet again.



Condolences:

I have so many good memories of coming out to the farm with my mom for visits. Bob, Jeff and I teasing the pigs, drinking fresh milk when Earl would milk the cows, and always the great food Elaine would cook. I remember how mad Elaine got when Jeff and I painted "help" on the bottom of Bob's shoes at the wedding. She will be missed. My prayers are with your family at the time of loss.      Greg Lee

To Earl, Bob, Jeff and Mary Ann and the entire family:  We are saddened by your loss, and yet we celebrate the great joy that Elaine now has with her Lord and Saviour.  What great memories of our visits to the farm in the 50's and 60's.  Mom, (Margie) always was so proud to take us to North Dakota to give us a touch of the experiences she had growing up.  Your family gave us exactly what Mom wanted us to experience.  We share your sorrow and joy during this time.  We love you all!   Bob, Lea Ann and Denny!
