Carrol E. Rognlie, 84, of Devils Lake, ND and formerly of Minnewaukan, ND passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Luther 'Lu' Mathison officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery. Music will be provided by Deanna Hanson and Claudette Carlson. Military Honors will be provided by the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post #747 of Harlow and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.

Carrol E. Rognlie, the son of Edwin and Margaret (Larson) Rognlie was born December 10, 1932 in Brinsmade, ND. The family moved to Minnewaukan where he graduated from the Minnewaukan High School in 1950. He was employed by Bert M. Salisbury, Judge of the Benson County Court of Increased Jurisdiction. Carrol was drafted into the United States Army in 1953. He attended several Military Schools and served overseas in Western Europe during the Korean War. Carrol returned to Minnewaukan and was employed by Mr. M.C. Hiaasen, Benson County State's Attorney.

Carrol pursued the love of his life, Joyce A. Nottestad, daughter of Elmer and Pearl (Romig) Nottestad of Minnewaukan. Joyce graduated from Minnewaukan High School in 1952 and from the St. Luke School of Nursing in Fargo with an RN Degree. Joyce was a longtime nurse at the Lake Region Clinic in Devils Lake, ND. Carrol and Joyce were married on June 6, 1956 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. They moved to Grand Forks where Carrol attended UND and Joyce was employed at St. Michaels Hospital. Carrol and Joyce welcomed their son, Jon M. Rognlie, on September 21, 1957 and returned to Minnewaukan.

He was employed by the Benson County Social Service Board under the supervision of Mr. Gottfried J. Kuhn. In the fall of 1961, Carrol, Joyce and Jon moved to St. Louis, MO where he attended and graduated from Washington University with his Master's Degree. Carrol was employed in years to come with the Benson County Social Service Board, the Area Social Service Center, the Lake Region Human Service Center, Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response, and the last years of his work journey with the Recovery and Wellness Program near Fort Totten.

Carrol is survived by his son, Jon (Annie) Rognlie; granddaughters, Jenny (Nathan) Gomke, Brooke (Bryce) Vanderwerff and Aimee (Eric) Pearson; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Taylor, Madalyn, Ava and Max; sisters-in-law, Twila Hansen and Donna (John) Olson; nephews, Jon, Barry, Terry (Dawn Marie), Rob (Lona), Tim (Jennifer) and Troy (Lisa); nieces, Stacey (Randy), Melanie (James), Sarah (Rich), Terry (Brian) and Tani (Jeff).

Preceding Carrol in death were his wife, Joyce, passed away on October 15, 2011, the saddest day in his life's journey; his parents; his sister, Phyllis; brothers-in-law, Charles Hansen and Hjalmer Hermanson; nieces, Kim and Tanya.
