Charles Simonson, 72, of Maddock, ND passed Monday, October 5, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. A private family service will be held at a later date. Charles Mitchell Simonson was born July 25, 1948 to Clarence and Janet (Baarlie) Simonson in Maddock, ND. He was baptized at the Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock on October 17, 1948. The family lived on a farm near Hamberg, ND and Charles attended first grade in the Norway Lake School near Hamberg for one year before the family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Charles attended grade school through 8 th grade in the Milwaukee Public School System. He then attended one year of high school at the Benson County Agricultural & Training School in Maddock North Dakota, while living with his sister, Gloria Gigstad and her family. Charles then moved to Pasadena California where his mother resided and he attended John Muyr High School.
He then moved from Pasadena California to Sturgis, Michigan where he lived with his sister, Laurel Rasho and their family while working at Paramont Furniture. He then married Carol Perry and the couple made their home in Sturgis. Charles and Carol had two children in their marriage, Adam and Stacey. Charles worked for Frye Copy Systems from 1974 until 1996 when the company moved out of state. He then returned to North Dakota and worked for Summers Manufacturing in Maddock and also the pasta plant in Carrington while living on a farmstead by Bremen, ND. He then became a farm laborer for his niece and her husband, Don and Vicky Ystaas of rural Bremen. He continued working for them until his retirement in 2010 when he moved into an apartment in Maddock where he resided until June of 2018. Charles then became a resident of the Maddock Memorial Home and resided there until his death on October 5, 2020.
Charles enjoyed playing softball, bowling, hunting, and he especially enjoyed his time out on the Great Lakes fishing with his brother, Jim and their friends. They had many adventures on the high seas with many fish tales to tell. His favorite pastime in later years was watching television, especially any sporting events and Westerns. He loved his children and was proud of their many accomplishments as they grew into adulthood and became the parents of his seven grandsons. He also enjoyed visiting with the many friendships he made wherever he lived throughout his life.
Charles is survived by his son Adam (Emerlyn) Simonson of Battle Creek, MI and daughter Stacey (Mark) Boyles of Burr Oak, MI; Seven grandson's: Jaden, Cobi, and Jett Simonson and Ethan, Braxton, Hudson, and Lawton Boyles; One brother, James (Mary) Simonson of Lemons, New York; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence J Simonson and Janet Sanchez; two brothers, Clarence Jr and Gerald Simonson; three sisters: Carol Lara, Gloria Gigstad, and Laurel Rasho.
