Clarice M. Johnson


Clarice M. Johnson, 83, of Bottineau, ND formerly of Devils Lake and Minnewaukan, ND, died Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center.  Funeral services will be Saturday, November 6, 2010,  11:00 AM  at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating.  Burial will be in the Antiochia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Churchs Ferry, ND.  Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Minnewaukan.  Casket bearers will be:  David Rekkedal,  Dale Rekkedal,  Brad Rekkedal,  Brent Rekkedal,  Tina O'Riley,  Amanda Mahler,  Matt Seykora,  Ryan Seykora  and  Dan Seykora.  Music will be from Renee Gilderhus, soloist with Deanna Hanson, organist.

Clarice Marion Johnson was born August 19th, 1927 at Brinsmade, ND,  the daughter of Ole and Rachel (Kirkeide) Myhre.  She attended grade school in Brinsmade and graduated from the Churchs Ferry High School in 1945.  Clarice married Anton Rekkedal on February 8th 1946.  They later divorced.  She moved to Minnewaukan in 1965 and in 1967, graduated from the secretarial course at the Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake.  Clarice worked in Minnewaukan at Benson County Auditors Office and Farmers State Bank and also at the Lake Region Human Services Center in Devils Lake until retiring in 1978.  She married Harold Johnson on February 3, 1971 in Minnewaukan.  The couple moved to Devils Lake in September of 2009.  She became a resident of the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center September 8th of this year.

Clarice was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and its WELCA.  She had served as president of the WELCA.  Clarice enjoyed embroidering and was an outstanding seamstress.  She loved spending time with her family and especially loved babies.

Surviving is her husband:  Harold of Devils Lake;  sons:  Edward (Beverly) Rekkedal of Arvilla, ND,  Curtis (Sandra) Rekkedal in Virginia,  Gary (Lynn) Rekkedal of Oberon, ND;  a daughter:  Darleen (Brad) Gangl of Bottineau;  step-daughter:  Linda Stephan of Phoenix, AZ and a step-son:  Rob (Karen) Johnson of Portland, OR;  15 grandchildren: David Rekkedal,  Dale Rekkedal,  Brad Rekkedal,  Brent Rekkedal,  Tina O'Riley,  Shelly Shoebridge,  Macey Obenchain,  Curtis Rekkedal,  Jory Rekkedal,  Tanis Rekkedal,  Halley Rekkedal,  Amanda Mahler,  Matt Seykora,  Ryan Seykora and Dan Seykora;   a step-grandson:  Robert Johnson;  sisters-in-law:  Fern Myhre of Great Falls, MT and Mary Jane Myhre of Bushnell, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  brothers:  Kenneth Myhre,  Richard Myhre,  Orrie Myhre and Olaf Myhre in infancy;  a sister-in-law:  Evelyn Myhre;  a daughter-in-law:  Thelma Rekkedal and a step-son:  Darrell Johnson.

Harold, Eddy, Curtis, Gary and Darleen and families, Our heartfelt condolences go out to you all and we are sending as much love as you need to surround you with to help you through the coming days and months while you are grieving for your wife, mom, grandmother and great -grandmother.  Aunt Sis was a wonderful Aunt and looked forward to seeing us and as did we in seeing her. She was well loved and thought of as special by her brothers, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and by all of you and your families and all who knew her.  She loved us all too very much. She will be missed.  Life is so short we sometimes need to slow down and look around at what we have and who is there with us. We can always look back to our memories of days spent in North Dakota in Minnewauken, Leeds, Devils Lake and out at the farm visiting cousins and other relatives and friends where being kids was something we got to be while there.  It was like taking a step back into a time when life was good and simple.  Not easy for our parents or grandparents but as children it was pretty darn good. Aunt sis, Uncle Ken and Aunt Evelyn, Uncle Orrie and Aunt Jane and our Dad and Mom along with Grampa and Grandma Myhre they all helped make that for us.  Cherish your memories and know she is there with you every step of the way in things you do throughout the rest of your lives.
