Cleon M. Faleide, 73, of Rugby, formerly of Maddock, ND, died Monday, January 4th, 2010 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.  Funeral services will be Saturday, January 9th, 2009, 11:00 AM at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery later in the spring.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7:30 PM with a 7:30 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.  Casket bearers will be:  DuWayne Dahl,  Jason Faleide,  Jack Zolondek,  James McLaurin,  John Braut,  Kent Pranke,  Matt Gilbertson and Tom Gilbertson.  Music will be from Nancy Abrahamson, soloist and Joann Bergrud, organist.

Cleon Mitchell Faleide was born December 30, 1936 to Carl and Merle (Rosendahl) Faleide and raised on a farm in Norway Lake Township, near Maddock, ND.  Cleon attended grade school at the Norway Lake School and graduated in 1955 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock.  He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and then worked as an assistant merchandise manager at Wilson Sporting Goods in Minneapolis.  Cleon moved to Santa Monica, CA in 1959 and worked at Douglas Aircraft.  In August of 1959, he joined North American Aviation, which later merged with Rockwell International.  Cleon spent 28 years at Rockwell International as a project manager in design and implementation of computing systems.  During this time he attended California State University and graduated with a masters degree in public and business administration and majored in computer applications.  Cleon later graduated from the University of California at Irvine with a degree in clinical psychology.  In later years, he owned his own company, UFFDA, INC, which organized water and snow skiing vacations throughout the western states and Europe.  Cleon was also associated with the Rahm Corporation in Sedona, CA for a period of time.  Cleon  returned to the Maddock area in 1993, living on the family farm. He then moved to an apartment in Maddock and in July of 2007, became a resident of the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Cleon was a member of the Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock.  He enjoyed skiing, traveling, music, piloting planes and photography.

Surviving are a sister:  Sonja Dahl and a brother and sister-in-law:  Erling and Linda Faleide all of Maddock;  nieces, nephews and families:  Karlene (James) McLaurin,   Elisha and James and Cleon's great-grandniece:  Katelyn McLaurin;    Kristie (Jack) Zolondek and Amber;  Kathy (Todd) Oakland,  Ethan, Laura and Andrew;  DuWayne (Cathy) Dahl and Elizabeth;    Jodi (John) Braut,  JP and Payton;  Jason (Lori) Faleide,  Abby, Sam and Emmy and Jessica Faleide.  Cleon was preceded in death by his parents;  brother-in-law:  Neil Dahl;  uncles:  Raymond, Hollis and Carl Rosendahl.



Condolences:

I've searched for Cleon and wondered if he had returned to North Dakota.  I worked with him at North American Avaition in the 60's and kept in touch for some years.  I used to love to tease him about ND because my husband was from there!  Cleon was a good friend.  I wasn't sure it was him until I saw the picture.  I'm glad he decided to return to "the nest".  I have lots of good memories of him.  My condolences to the family.

I am sorry to hear of Cleon's passing.  I worked on the programming staff for Engineering Systems at Rockwell International.  I truly enjoyed interfacing with Cleon and missed him a lot when he left Rockwell.  I especially remember his quick sense of humor.  He made work "Fun".  But, he also got the job done and was quite inovative.
