Obituary

Cora M. Hunter, 94 of Harvey, ND,  formerly of Esmond and Maddock, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey.  Memorial Services will be Wednesday, May 13, 2009,  2:00 PM at Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond with Pastor Dave Fix officiating.  Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery at Esmond. Honorary bearers will be:  Philip Backstrom, Wilford Brown,  Virgil Ellingson,  Lewis Duffey,  Dean Hellesvig,  Sylvester Hoffner,  Royce Hunter, Wade Hunter, Kenny Sizemore, members of the Esmond VFW Auxiliary and Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Auxiliary of Maddock.  Music will be from Roger and Karen Hill.  Visitation will be at the church an hour before the service.  The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.

Cora Melvina Hunter was born August 17, 1914, on the family farm near Fillmore, ND, to Iver and Hanna (Berg) Brenno.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Fillmore Lutheran Church.  She was raised and attended school in Fillmore and graduated from the Silva High School.  Cora married Ernest Hunter on June 9, 1938, at Fillmore.  They lived in Flora, Sterling, Wing, and Westhope while Ernest taught school.  In 1947, they moved to the Hunter farm southeast of Esmond and assisted in farming operation with Ernest's brother.  Ernest passed away on May 20, 1972.  She then moved to Maddock and was a cook in the Memorial Home for many years.

Cora was a former member of the Esmond Congregational Church and Ladies Aid, where she served as president and was currently a member of the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in  Esmond.  She had held memberships in the VFW Auxiliary of Esmond, where she was a past president and the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Auxiliary of Maddock.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law:  Diana and Kenny Sizemore of Sterling, VA;  two sons and a daughter-in-law:  Gary and Judy Hunter of Minot and Terry Hunter of Channelview, TX;  three grandchildren:  McKinnie (Adrinne) Sizemore II,  Royce (April) Hunter and Wade Hunter and four great-grandchildren:  McKinnie Sizemore III, Travis Sizemore,  Hunter Sizemore  and Jordan Sizemore.  Cora was preceded in death by her parents;  husband;  six brothers:  Henry,  John,  Iliot,  Theodore,  Irvin and Herman; four sisters:  Olena,  Stella,  Thea and Inga.





Condolences:

Gary, Judy, Royce, April, and Wade. I'm so sorry to hear about Cora's death. Gary and Judy, I'm sorry for your double loss on the same day. I've never heard of that happening before and I can't imagine going thru it myself, not sure I'd have the strength. Royce and Wade, I'm so sorry you lost both your Grandma's on the same day. How sad my heart is for all of you.
