Cora Olson, 99, of Maddock, ND, died Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.   Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5th, 2011, 11:00 AM  at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. The Eulogy will be from Wally Moon.   Burial will be in the West Minnewaukan Free Cemetery, rural Maddock.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.  Casket bearers will be her grandchildren:  Jimmy Olson,  Wayne Olson,  Janet Stensby,  Nancy DeBilzan,  Kristin Bakkegard,  John Bakkegard and Koren Barrick.  Honorary bearers will be her great-grandchildren:  Eric Olson,  Sara Olson,  Becky Stensby,  Jesse Stensby,  Jenna Olson,  Erika Olson,  Lindi DeBilzan,  Sam DeBilzan,  Eli Bakkegard and Samuel Barrick and great-great-grandchildren:  Kinsey and Connor Olson.  Music will be from Jennifer Hagen, pianist.

Cora Nottestad was born March 23, 1911 on the family farm in Albert Township, rural Maddock, ND and was the last surviving child of 13 born to Theodore and Jorgina (Sigmundstad) Nottestad.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran and attended the Albert Township rural school.  Cora married John Olson on November 25th, 1930 at the parsonage in Minnewaukan, ND.  The couple lived on farms in Aurora and North Viking Townships and moved into Maddock in 1948.  John died on January 4th, 1987.  In later years, Cora resided at the Maddock Memorial Home and since 2003 has lived at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.

Cora was a member of the West Minnewaukan Free Church until is closure in 1970 and then joined North Viking Lutheran in Maddock were she was a member of the WELCA.  She also was a member of the Maddock 55 Club and Tops.  Cora enjoyed quilting and painting pictures.

Surviving Cora are a son and daughter-in-law:  Verdel and Luella Olson of Maddock; a daughter and son-in-law:  Kathleen and Wallace Moon of Trussville, Alabama;  7 grandchildren;  10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents;  husband;  a son:  Marlyn Olson on September 7th, 1979;  brothers:  Albert,  Edwin,  Elmer,  Fred and Clarence Nottestad and sisters:  Marie Engen,  Julia Jacobson,  Tillie Johnson,  Selma Togstad,  Alma Buness,  Judith Buness and Myrtle Togstad.

What a blessing to have enjoyed such a long life. Cora will surely be missed for her talents and the rich family history she was able to share with the family.
