Crystal Margo Claudette Maier, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Altru Hospital in Devils Lake. A private family Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Crystal was born on September 30, 1945, to Roy and Amelia (Holtz) Newcomb in Minnewaukan, ND. She grew up there and graduated with the class of 1963. In 1964, she married Nolan Halvorson, and together they had two daughters, Janet and Angela.

During the sixties and seventies, Crystal worked as a legal secretary and took great pride in serving her uncle, the Honorable Judge Bert M. Salisbury, and later for Joe Dietchman at the U.S. States Attorney’s Office. She later worked for the Benson County FMHA office and the Benson County Farmer’s Press, where she served as proofreader for 22 years, retiring in 2006.

Crystal married Robert E. Maier in 1984. Together, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, including memorable trips to Alaska with Farmers Union and bank tour groups. They wintered in Orlando, FL enjoying visits to Disney World and Sea World. Crystal loved gardening, sewing, baking, and creating cherished memories with her grandchildren. Crystal and Bob relocated to Devils Lake in 2022.

Crystal is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters Janet (Steve) Axtman of Charlotte, NC, and Angela (Alan) Goeser of Munich, ND; grandchildren Tanner Axtman, Kelan (Cassidy) Goeser, and Tyler Goeser; great‑grandchildren Heston and Sophia Goeser; siblings Audrey (Gerald) Wagner and Aaron (Marlys) Newcomb; stepchildren Bobbie, Jason, and John Maier; and several step‑grandchildren and step‑great‑grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Amelia Newcomb; siblings Maxine Yri, Hazel Crouse, Rolf Newcomb, Clele Johnson, Wade Newcomb; infant brother Joseph Roy and stepson Greg Maier.
