Curtis D. Lunde, 74, of rural Brinsmade, ND,  died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo from complications following surgery in May.  Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Leeds Lutheran Church in Leeds, ND with Pastor Richard Budd officiating.  Burial will be in the Brinsmade Cemetery.  Casket bearers will be:  William Julson,  Bob Schumacher,  Jesse Selland,  Calen Schumacher,  Taylor Schumacher and John Lunde.  Music will be from Dan and MiChelle Nybo.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in  Leeds.

Curt was born November 14 1938, to Roy and Olga (Kinneberg) Lunde. Following the death of his mother when he was 7 months old,  he was raised in the Harlow-Brinsmade area by his grandparents, Carl and Anna Lunde. Curt attended grade school in Brinsmade and graduated from Leeds High School in 1956.  He married Janis Holmes in 1959. Curt served in the Army from 1959 to 1961 and was recalled during the Berlin Crisis. Curt worked for area farmers, Wayne and Virgil Gerig, Harold Hofstrand and Alvin Kenner and was a custom combiner for several years.  Curt also drove truck for Leo Klien before going into the trucking business for himself.  He also farmed the original Lunde homestead until his death.  Curt was a Mason, enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and amateur radio.

Curt is survived by his wife, Janis;  children:  Kevin Lunde of Brinsmade,  Peggy (Bob) Schumacher of Clear Lake, MN and Loren Lunde of Leeds; a brother Roger (Joyce) Lunde of Mohall, ND; a sister Mavis Lunde and a sister  Norma (Bruce) Kinnear of Winnipeg, Manitoba; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and his step-mother, Sally Lunde of Rugby. Curt was preceded in death by his parents.

I am so sorry to hear of Curtis' passing. I remember when he worked for my Dad as a very young man, and how my siblings and I as little kids thought he was the coolest guy ever with his happy demeanor and way he joked with us. I will always remember our family visits with Janis and Curtis in Brinsmade. My parents told me how excited they were to see him at church in April and how they enjoyed visiting with him and Janis at the church dinner. It's hard to believe he is gone, but his beautiful spirit will always stay with us in our memories. Claudia Gerig-French
