Daniel Wade Straabe, 55, of Lisbon, ND and formerly of Minnewaukan, ND passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND after a long illness.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Luther 'Lu' Mathison officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery in Harlow, ND.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery: 4915 50 ^th Avenue NE Maddock, ND 58348.

Daniel was born in Maddock, ND March 4, 1967, the son of Allen Straabe and Ellen Friestad Straabe.  He was baptized at Leeds Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Peter Church in Minnewaukan.  Dan attended grade schools in Grafton, Leeds and Minnewaukan, ND, graduating from Minnewaukan High School in 1985.  He attended East Grand Technical College with a degree in welding.  Dan worked in Grafton, Grand Forks and then for Bobcat the last 24 years welding.  He bought a home in Lisbon and resided there until his death.  Dan was married for a time to Stephanie Bjerkness.  Dan enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley and making people laugh.

Dan once took a trip to Alaska to visit his best friend and cousin, Darryl Matthews.  They fished in Prince William Sound catching halibut and many more species of fish.  They then had a wonderful fish fry with all the freshly caught fish.  Dan's family always looked forward to his visits in Minnewaukan and to the farm.

We knew of Dan's illness before Thanksgiving last year, so many of the family came for Thanksgiving and the day after to spend time with Dan.  Many games were played as well as baking and frosting sugar cookies.  This was repeated for Christmas.

Dan is survived by his mother, Ellen; step-father, Clinton Huffman; sister, Lisa Lauckner; brothers, Todd Straabe and Chans Huffman; nieces, Ryann Lauckner, Zoe Lauckner; nephews, Sam, Jesse (Brandy) and Bo Lauckner.  He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Straabe; grandparents, Tom (Ardith) Straabe and Harold (Guri) Friestad; uncle, Mark Friestad; uncles-in-law, Roland Matthews and Bob Cable; cousins, Ron Matthews and Trent Cable.

Dan's corneas are being given to a donor.
