Danny Kay Bingaman

Danny Kay Bingaman, known to many as “Dan” and by his teenage CB radio name, “The Yellow Hornet,” passed away after a long battle with dementia at the age of 74. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 1, 2026 at the Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Troy McNear officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Antiochia Cemetery in rural Churchs Ferry, ND.

Danny was born on April 1, 1952, in Rugby, North Dakota, to Ernest “Dutch” and Lilly Bingaman. He was baptized and confirmed at Antiochia Lutheran Church in rural Churchs Ferry. Danny attended school in Churchs Ferry and graduated in 1970.

Growing up, Danny earned the nickname “The Yellow Hornet” because of his yellow and white truck. He could often be found cruising the back roads, visiting cousins, and causing a little ruckus wherever he went.

After high school, Danny worked alongside his father on the family farm, driving field trucks and tractors, working the land, and raising beef cattle. He later moved to Grand Forks, where he began a lifelong career in trucking and construction. Throughout his life, Danny worked hard in farming, trucking, and construction.

While living in Grand Forks, Danny met Diane Gedde. They were married in September 1987. Together they had three children: Duane Douglas, Dale Ray, and Dannette Annamarie. They were separated in 1994.

Danny later found companionship with Sheila Heyes from 1994 to 2007 and Kay Kennedy from 2008 to 2014.

Family meant everything to Danny. He never missed a Thompson family reunion and always looked forward to Churchs Ferry Days, where he could often be found riding on the float and enjoying ice cream. He made sure Dale, Dannette, and their stepbrother Jeffrey Wuollet attended family reunions in Medora—memories he would continue talking about throughout his life.

When Dale and Dannette were growing up, many special memories were made during luncheons with Dan, Sid, and Lilly at the Green Mill in Grand Forks. Danny loved taking the kids swimming at the TownHouse Hotel or wandering through Cabela’s together.

Danny was active in the Grand Forks Masonic community and enjoyed playing pool, working on cars, riding motorcycles, and practicing his golf swing by hitting balls near the train tracks behind his home.

After Dale graduated from the Heavy Equipment program, Danny especially enjoyed the time they spent together while Dale worked for Strata Construction. In their free time, the two could often be found working on Danny’s beloved red single-cab Ford truck.

In 2013, accompanied by his brother Sidney, Danny took one of his final road trips to Minnesota to walk Dannette down the aisle at her wedding.

Between 2014 and 2026, Danny was blessed to meet all six of his grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy. Even after words became difficult, his eyes would light up when they entered his room.

Danny is survived by his sister, Betty Lou Horn; his children, Dale (Kelli) Wuollet and Dannette (Zachary) Nevala; his grandchildren, Kelsey Nevala (11), Tyson Wuollet (9), Brooke Nevala (9), Zephyr Wuollet (3), Matthew Nevala (3), and Levi Nevala (1); along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest “Dutch” and Lilly Bingaman; his brothers, Ernie Lee,Sidney Allan, Larry Dean, and Donny Ray; and his son, Duane Douglas.

Danny will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his kindness and willingness to always lend a helping hand, his deep love for his family, and the many stories and memories shared by all who knew him.
