David 'Dave' Warren Daeley, 75, of Maddock, ND passed away Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, September 24, 2022 at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Luther 'Lu' Mathison officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service Friday, September 23, 2022 at North Viking Lutheran Church. Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 26, 2022 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Kathy Daeley P.O. Box 104 Maddock, ND 58348. (Please indicate Maddock Educational Scholarship on the memo line).
David Warren Daeley was born on March 10, 1947, in Kenmare, North Dakota, to Warren and Florence (Bergerson) Daeley of Sherwood. David attended school in Sherwood, graduating in 1966. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduating and completed his training at Camp Pendleton, California. He served in Vietnam for 18 months, followed by stateside service at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Upon his discharge, he returned to Sherwood. He attended College at Bottineau and Mayville, then went to work driving truck and later worked on oil drilling rigs.
David married Kathy Keith on August 15, 1975. He continued working in the oil field for a time before deciding to complete his teaching degree. They moved to Dickinson until he graduated in 1978, at which time they moved to Alamo, ND, where he taught social studies and coached girls' basketball. He also taught countless students to drive over the years of his teaching career. He later taught at schools in Rhame, Goodrich, Pisek, and finally in Maddock where they have lived since 1991. Dave was active in the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, teaching hunter safety courses for over thirty years. Following his retirement from teaching, he became Benson County's Veterans Service Officer until 2016.
David was active in the American Legion from the time of his military discharge until he entered the Good Samaritan Home (Lakota) in 2019. He has served in various local, district, and state offices, being especially dedicated to the American Legion Oratorical Contest for many years.
David and Kathy enjoyed traveling together. They were privileged to be able to spend time at both Disney World and Disneyland with their grandchildren. They vacationed together in Hawaii, Ireland, and the Netherlands, as well as taking trips to the Rockies, Grand Tetons, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, and a few other spots as well.
David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy; children, Jeff (April) Daeley, Mike (Lindsey) Daeley, and Alicia Olson (Jason Mann); grandchildren, Rileigh Kummer, Garrin Daeley, Camden Olson, Adleigh Olson, and Chesney Gray; siblings, Wanda (Al) Kleinsmith, John (Jeannette) Daeley, Paul (Sally) Daeley; sister-in-law, Shelley Brekhus; aunt, Ardene Cramer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Benita Wojtowicz; brother, William Daeley.
