Dean was born June 20, 1951 at the Maddock Hospital to Edmund and Pearl (Anderson) Hellesvig. He attended grade school in Hesper Township, attended High School at the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock and graduated from Maddock High School with the class of 1969. Dean began farming in 1970 and purchased the home place from his mother, Pearl, in 1974 where he raised crops and cattle.

Dean married the love of his life, Jeanne Moser, on January 21, 1983 in Rugby, ND. In their short forty years of marriage, the couple enjoyed many wonderful trips every summer with their traveling couple Dave and Nancy. This included cruises to vacationing in Mexico, Jamaica and many states in the US to name a few. Dean enjoyed fishing, fixing anything mechanical and working with his hands doing carpentry wood work in his shop.

Dean always took time out of his busy day to stop and visit and listen to anyone he came across. His shop was always open and often a gathering place for visitors and his many friends. Dean had children, even though he did not have any of his own. He enjoyed teaching children different crafts and trades and was viewed like a father and role model to them.

Dean was an active member of the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond and also was a church board member. He made two mission trips to Poland with other congregational church members in both 2008 and 2011. Dean was also a board member of the Hesper Township. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dean is survived by his wife, Jeanne; siblings, Patricia Lackman of Edgeley, ND, Eileen (Jeff) Dixon of Blue Springs, MO, and Betty (Douglas) Lake of Fort Myers, FL; father-in-law, Eddie Moser; sisters-in-law, Vicki (Clarence)Glatt, Penny (Dennis) Maw, Marcy Koenig and Nikki (Dwayne) Klein; numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Pearl Hellesvig; nephew, Eddie Dixon; mother-in-law, Marlene Moser; brother-in-law, Bruce Lackman; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
