Obituary

Debra Kay Nelson, 58, of Valley City, ND and formerly of Jamestown and Maddock, ND, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  Funeral services will be Monday, June 14, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Monday at the church an hour before the funeral.   Serving as casket bearers will be:  Doug Arnston,  Duane Erickson,  Francis Hellerud,  Dean Lindgren,  Darryl Nelson and Jim Nelson.  Music will be from Paula Duren, organist with Joann Bergrud, soloist.

Debra Kay Nelson was born April 30th, 1952, the daughter of Bjarne and Lillian (Myhre) Nelson.  She was raised on the family farm and educated at the Quarve rural school in South Viking Township.  Debra graduated from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock in 1971 and attended college for a time in Fargo.  She worked as a nurse's aid caring for the elderly.  During her life,  Debra lived in Maddock, Jamestown and Valley City.

Debra was baptized and confirmed and a life member of Viking Lutheran Church.  She had been a member of 4H and enjoyed puzzles and reading.

Surviving is her mother:  Lillian Hegland and a brother:  Loren Nelson both of New Rockford, ND;  a niece:  Talia Nelson of Tonopah,  Arizona;  and a number of cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father:  Bjarne Nelson;  step-father:  Morris Hegland and an infant brother.
