Delores Engene-Barclay, 80, of La Jolla, CA formerly Esmond, ND, died late Sunday, November 22, 2009, at her home in La Jolla, under the care of her daughter and Hospice. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5th, 2009, 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at the church an hour before the service. Casket bearers will be: Gene Reierson, Erling Karlsbraaten, Richard Carlson, John Carlson, LeRoy Rice and James Leier. Honorary bearers will be: Lloyd Carlson and Art Rice. Music will be from Margaret Toso, organist. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
Delores Anna Engene was born March 10, 1929 at Esmond, ND, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Watterud) Engene. She was raised near Esmond, baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and then confirmed there in 1943. Delores graduated from the Esmond High School. Following graduation from Minot State Teacher's College, Delores followed her sisters Josina and Benora to Crescent City, CA. The three sisters married three of the Lesina brothers. Delores married Robert J. Lesina in 1953 and later married Raimon Barclay on March 13th, 1965 at Crescent City. Delores taught grade school at Crescent Elk Elementary in Crescent City for two years. Following the birth of her daughter, she worked payroll and accounting jobs at Cal-Ore and McNamara & Peepe sawmills, and Del Norte Title Company in Crescent City. Following the death of her second husband, Raimon Barclay, in 1973, Delores moved to La Jolla, CA and worked in real estate for a year followed by many years as an accountant for DYK Water Reservoirs. Delores was diagnosed with Alzheimers several years ago and continued to live in her home in La Jolla, CA with her daughter, Debra, caring for her. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association.
Surviving is her daughter: Debra Lesina Mihaly of La Jolla, CA; former spouse: Robert Lesina; nieces and nephews: Lloyd Carlson, Richard Carlson, Gloria Carlson Stanton, Dorothy Simonson Thorson, Bud Eckstrom, Judith Eckstrom Daughtry, Elaine Eckstrom Stillwell, Gail Eckstrom, Carol Charnetzski Thompson, Dianne Lesina Zupunski, Rodney Lesina, Bill Lesina, Jane Lesina Conners, Dale Lesina, Gordon Lesina, Mark Lesina, numerous great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Raimon Barclay; siblings: Belmina Simonson, Lillian Carlson, Gina Eckstrom, Josina Lesina, Benora Lesina, Alf Engene; nephews: Ernest Carlson, Donald Carlson, LeRoy Carlson and Duwane Simonson.
My g-grandmother was Ingrid Engene-Olsen. We are most likely related. I am waiting for an obituary about Delores. I am very sorry for the loss of your mother. Connie Crisswell is our family historian. We are related to the Watteruds of Esmond, ND.
