Dennis Harold Blomster was born April 20, 1937 at Maddock, ND, to Harold and Doris (Olson) Blomster and baptized on May 30, 1937 in Maddock. He was raised on the family farm in Broe Township, rural Baker, ND. Dennis attended grade school in Baker and high school at the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock. During his life, he farmed and also worked in construction. He joined the Marines in 1956, serving 18 months in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1958. He married Marlene Ovitt on June 7, 1959 at Rugby, ND. They lived in Coolidge, AZ during the winter of 1960. He lived in Pierre, SD from 1961 to 1963 where he worked on the construction of the Oahe Dam. From 1963 to 1988, Dennis farmed near Baker and worked in construction during the winters in Minot, Devils Lake, Rugby, Fort Totten and also at missile sites. Debbie Spah and Dennis were married July 31, 1981 in Devils Lake. The couple moved to Lancaster, CA in 1988 and retired to Devils Lake, ND in 1990.
Dennis was confirmed and remained a life member at St. Petri Lutheran Church rural York, where he served many years on the council. He enjoyed hunting and watching the Minnesota Vikings. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandsons.
Surviving are his wife: Debbie of Devils Lake; a son: Craig (Carol) Blomster of Harlow, ND; a daughter: Kim (Tom) Kirkeide of Baker, ND; 3 grandsons: Casey Blomster, Travis (Brooke) Kirkeide and Tyler of Kirkeide; 2 brothers: Larry (Diane) Blomster of Hawley, MN and Dickey (Shirley) Blomster of Rugby; a sister: Sally Blomster of Baxter, MN; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
