Obituary

Derrell W. Gannon, 60, of Warwick, ND died on the evening of Friday, January 6, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks after a long and courageous battle with a prolonged illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 10:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Michael, ND, with Fr. Kim Moen, celebrant.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday at the church beginning at 5pm with a 7:00 PM Rosary.    Pallbearers will be Craig Estenson, Paul Kraft, Rodney Skadsem, Gary Thumb, Rod Cavanaugh, Earl Bullhead, Darrell Smith and David Eversvik.  Honorary pallbearers will be Derrell's grandchildren, great grandchildren, all his nieces and nephews;  Mary Eversvik, Nan Forrest, Joan Nelson, Loretta and Lionna Dubois, Lori Kurtz, Sissy Burnette, Brenda Azure and Family, Rhonda DeShaun, Dr. Laura LizaKowski, Ronnie Waldo, Alan (Red) Knox, Bradley Beckstrand, Brian Johnson, Tim Thornson, Brad Kurtz, Tory Sidler, Dr. Roberto Moreleda, Dr. Shivu Kaushik and all other medical professionals who helped Derrell.

Derrell Wayne Gannon was born on Nov. 23, 1951 in Littlefield, TX to Gladys Dosier and Wayne Colbert Gannon. He spent the majority of his young years fishing, hunting and enjoying the outdoors.

Derrell was a loving and supportive husband, an amazing father, a dedicated son, and a friend and mentor to many. His passions were his family, his faith and fishing. He was a longtime truck driver, welder and artist, and was greatly talented in every endeavor he undertook. Everyone that had the opportunity to meet Derrell and get to know him would agree that he was a giving and dedicated soul that was willing to give anyone the shirt off his back.

He is survived by his mother:  Gladys Orrell of Wichita Falls, TX;  his wife:  Kelly Gannon of Warwick;   sons:  Derrell Wayne Gannon Jr. of Graham, TX,  Colbert Wayne Gannon of Warwick; daughters:  Melissa (Brad) Phillips (Azle, TX), Lilisa (Darrick) Reese of Warwick, Krystal (Vinny) Caldwell of Warwick, Moriah (Justin) Rademacher of Williston;  a sister:  Debbie Orrell of Tulsa, OK;   nine grandchildren;  one great-grandchild;  several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews that all loved and cherished every second with him.

Derrell will join his father:  Wayne Gannon;  a brother: Larry Orrell and many other family members eager to spend eternity with him in God's amazing presence.

Memorials may be directed to St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Though I haven't seen Derrell in years, he is remembered for his awesome sense of humor and laugh.  I've always been a sucker for a southern drawl. :)  He made some great Texas Chili that was often too hot for many of us northerners.  Thank you for enlightening my life with your stories.  Tanya (McKelvey) Schoessow

Dear Gannon family,   I am so sorry for your loss. I don't believe I ever met Derrell but I was fortunate to work at the elementary school where Colbert and Lilly attended and I remember them  fondly as being so very kind  with wonderful, delightful, personalities. I remember meeting you Kelly, when you came in the school and I admired you as a mother. Derrell and you have some of the nicest kids ever. Your family is a great tribute to the father. My deepest sympathy to all of Derrels family.I grew up with Derrel.We had some really good times together as teenagers.I recently found about his passing and I am so sorry I didn't try to get in touch with him sooner. Tommy Hall
