Obituary

Donald W. Bratlee, 88, of Carrington, ND, formerly Leeds, ND, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 23, 2014  at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 29 th , 2014  11:00 AM at the Cando Assembly of God Church in Cando, ND with Pastor Wes Glennen and Pastor Randy Hahn officiating. Visitation will be the church from 10am until the time of service.  Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Cando later in the spring. Casket bearers will be:  Jon Saastad,  Paul Saastad,  Mark Ahlberg,  Greg Anderson,  Aaron Esterly and Bruce Olsen.  Music will be from:  Kyle Vanderbeek,  Faryn Esterly,  Gwendolyn Rappuhn,  Hayley Rappuhn,  Harlan Wagenman and Lavonne Wagenman.  The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds is in charge of the arrangements

Donald Winston Bratlee was born on July 17, 1925, north of Leeds in Springfield Township to Andrew and Barbara (Tveiten) Bratlee, Norwegian immigrants who settled on a farm in the North Prairie community.  Donald attended rural Wheatland Schools and graduated from Leeds High School in 1943. Afterwards, Donald continued to farm in a partnership with his brother George on the family farm for many years.  Donald married Beverly Parker on December 30, 1993, and they lived on the farm and enjoyed winters in Phoenix, AZ.  Most recently, they moved to Carrington,  and  Donald later became a resident of Golden Acres Manor in Carrington where Donald passed away.

Donald was an active member and strong supporter of the North Prairie Lutheran Church of rural Leeds where he held numerous offices throughout the years. Donald enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, working on the yard, and  playing cards and games.  He loved to travel and read; with his wonderful mind he was knowledgeable on just about any topic one would discuss.  Donald was a kind, gentle man and true friend to his many nieces and nephews and always had time to visit. Many were touched by his generous and positive influence. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, brother John Bratlee of Seattle, WA, sisters Myrtle Boyer of Gresham, OR, and Helen Saastad of Starkweather, ND. Stepchildren-Pat and John Rodgers, CO,  Richard and Helen Parker, IN, Michael Parker, Cando,  Randy and MariJo Parker, Cando, 10 step-grandchildren, 19 step-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John (who died in childhood) and George, sisters Sigrid Lucken, Grace Bratlee, Agnes Bratlee, Pearl Zyllo.
