Obituary

Donny R. Bingaman, 60, of Moorhead, MN and formerly of Churchs Ferry and Grand Forks, ND,  died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Essentia Health in Fargo.  Memorial Services will be Saturday, January 19, 2013, 11:00 AM at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Luther Mathison officiating.  Burial will be later at Antiochia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Churchs Ferry.  Music will be from Claudette Carlson, vocalist with Fay Huffman, organist.

Donny Ray Bingaman was born April 1st, 1952 in Devils Lake, ND to Ernest (Dutch) and Lilly Bingaman.  He lived and attended school in Churchs Ferry, graduating in 1970 from Churchs Ferry High School.  Donny attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake, ND, then worked for a company in Oklahoma laying pipelines. After returning to ND, he was involved in an accident with an 18-wheel truck in 1978, which left him a paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair for 34 years.   After his accident and extended rehabilitation in Grand Forks, he attended college at UND and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. Donny was active in a Handicapped Awareness Program which involved several areas; one was speaking to student nurses to inform them of how it felt to be paralyzed and their special needs, another was checking for handicapped parking and access to public places, especially restaurants. He also modeled some clothing made for a wheelchair bound person.

Donny enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball and traveled with them to Dallas, Minneapolis and California for those activities.  He loved fishing, especially in Devil's Lake.  Donny attended church at Antiochia Lutheran Church when able.  He moved to Fargo and then to Moorhead, Minnesota.

Survivors include four brothers: his twin brother Danny of Grand Forks and Churchs Ferry, Ernie Lee of West Memphis, Arkansas, Larry of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Sidney of Churchs Ferry and a sister, Betty Lou (Don) Horn of Prudenville, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
