Dorothy M. Hovden, 94, of Minnewaukan, ND, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando, ND. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Tom Klotzbach, Gary Klotzbach, Lyle Klotzbach, Milton Schmid, Carl Gilbertson, Andrew Iverson, Randy Brynsaas and Carlton Haugen. Music will be provided by Claudette Carlson and Carl Gilbertson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery Fund 4574 54th Ave NE Maddock, ND 58348.
Dorothy Mae was born April 28, 1921 to Carl and Gina (Helgeson) Gilbertson on the family farmstead in rural Minnewaukan, ND. She attended country school in the Eldon Township until the eighth grade. Dorothy married Joseph Hovden on May 9, 1948. She was a farmwife and homemaker until Joseph's death in 1969. Dorothy worked at many restaurants throughout her life, helping wherever she was needed.
She was very active in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was the church treasurer, organist, reader and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was past president of the 55 club and was a driving force in the Minnewaukan Senior Center helping prepare the meals to seniors.
Dorothy was very good at needle work and loved to crochet doilies and cross stitch. She was also an avid baker and enjoyed making donuts and raspberry jam.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Lyle Gilbertson and sister, Ardis Klotzbach and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents, Carl and Gina and two sisters, Edna (Norviel) Haugen and Norma (Glen) Schmid.
