Dorothy Irene (Lowe) Lynne, 85, died March 27, 2009 of cancer at her farm home near Maddock, ND, surrounded by her family and under the loving care of St. Alexius Hospice, Harvey Branch.  Funeral services will be Saturday, April 4th, 2009, 11:00 AM at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock, with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in North Viking Lutheran Cemetery in Maddock.  Visitation will be Friday, April 3, 2009 from 4 to 7pm with a 7pm family service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.  Casket bearers will be:  Gary, Richard and Ryan Lynne,  Kevin Koch,  Michael Hodek, John Hanson and Dean Hannah. Music will be from Lanny Faleide, soloist with Alpha Roeszler, organist.

Dorothy Lynne was born April 10, 1923 near Flora to Ole and Martha (Rise) Lowe. She was baptized and confirmed in the North Viking Lutheran Church. She was the youngest of six children and attended schools in Flora, ND and Arlington, WA.

On June 21, 1941 she was united in marriage to Gordon Lynne at the parsonage in Maddock. They lived on the homestead family farm their entire 65 years of married life. The four-generation farm has been in the family since 1889. Gordon and Dorothy received the Soil Conservation Award in 1972, presented by the Wells County Soil Conservation District.

Dorothy was known for her incredible attention to detail – in her home, food, scrapbooks, stitching and dolls. She lived most of her life in her home and on the farm, and tended to both with loving care. She created a miniature diorama dollhouse, and also furnished a walk-in "Summer Kitchen" to display family household antiques. She was known for her perfectly round molasses and sugar cookies, raisin bars and banana bread. She precisely recorded her family's history in many scrapbooks in a delicate and personal way and enjoyed many types of needlework and stitching. In later years, her home became an orphanage for hundreds of dolls that she lovingly restored and displayed with pride.

Many close friends and family members knew her as "Dot" and after becoming a great-grandma, she became "Nannie Dot." With her great-grandchildren, Nannie Dot enjoyed tea parties, dominoes, paper airplanes and playing in the dolly room.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, four granddaughters and eight great-grandhildren: Gary Lynne and his wife Judy (Hagen) Lynne of Lincoln, NE. They have two daughters.  Jill and John Hanson live in Omaha, NE and have three daughters - Katie, Lauren and Samantha.  Erica and Dean Hannah live near Indianapolis, IN and have two sons – Tyler and Harrison.  Richard Lynne and his wife Rae Ann (Wavra) live near the family farm in Maddock, ND.  They have three daughters. Angela was born in 1975 and died as an infant. Lisa and Kevin Koch live in Bismarck, ND and have two daughters – Hannah and Emelia.   Shawna and Mike Hodek live in Fordville, ND and have one son – Connor. Ryan Lynne lives near the family farm in Maddock, ND.  Dorothy is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Hulda Faleide of Maddock and Olive Ryder of Yakima, WA; a brother-in-law:  Bill Weiss of New Salem, ND; many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband: Gordon;  parents;  three brothers:  Oliver, Roy and Freddie Lowe;  two sisters:  Violet Wold and Evelyn Diettman, and a granddaughter: Angela Lynne.

A friend just told us of your mother's and mother in law's passing and we want you to know that you are in our thoughts. Although this time is a very hard time to let go and say goodbye I'm sure you know that it is our loss and their gain at this time. May you find comfort in the only One that can give it.

My sincere sympathy to you all. I met Dot briefly while she was a patient at St. A's and my friend, Jean Nelson, introduced us. She meant alot to Jean and therefore, I feel a great loss through her. She sounds like she was a wonderful lady by the statements told to me by Jean. She certainly was a brave lady in her facing the cancer she had. Take care and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

please accept our deepest sympathy and know that your are and have been in our thoughts. How wonderful that you could spend your time with your Mom and Grandmother during her last days of this earthly journey. I am sure you are tired but grateful for that time. There will be a hole in your lives that she filled, but may the hope of her now glorious life and the wonderful memories she left help heal your hearts.
