Duane (Dewy) Eugene Warner, 79, of Maddock, ND passed away Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Maddock Memorial Home, surrounded by loved ones. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Harlow VFW Hall in Harlow, ND with Pastor Shawn Bowman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery in Harlow. Military Honors will be provided by the Harlow VFW Post #757, the Maddock American Legion Post #123, and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.

Duane was born on January 28, 1947, in Maddock, North Dakota, to James and Arlene Warner. As the oldest of five siblings, he grew up on the family farm near Harlow. One of his favorite childhood memories was riding horseback with his brother Arden.

Duane spent his early years in North Dakota, attending grade school in Harlow and high school in Maddock. He grew up working alongside his father on the farm and later spent 26 years traveling to Kansas with Warner Custom Combining. A natural craftsman, Duane was an avid carpenter and mechanic throughout his life. If something needed to be built, fixed, or taken apart—and occasionally figured out after it had already been taken apart—Duane was always up for the challenge. He also proudly served his country for six years in the Army National Guard after being drafted in 1967.

In August 1967, Duane married Bonnie Kay Olson, a union blessed with three children: Dion, Dale, and Chris. In the summer of 1975, he married Jean Armstrong, welcoming twin daughters, Sandra and Sheila. Through other cherished chapters in his life, Duane was also blessed with his children, Danny and Kayla. Duane created a big, beautiful, non-traditional family, and his children consider themselves incredibly fortunate to have one another. If you ever asked Duane what his greatest achievement was, he would proudly and quickly reply, “Well, my kids, of course!”

Dewy had many friends and loved nothing more than having a good time. He was the kind of man whose presence was hard to miss, and perhaps nothing captured that better than his laugh. Duane had a loud, boisterous, unmistakable laugh—the kind that carried across a room and let you know exactly where he was. For those who loved him, that laugh will be one of the sounds they miss most. His son, Dion, was blessed with that very same laugh.

He lived life on his own terms: he worked hard, played hard, and collected plenty of stories along the way. He wasn’t a man who lived quietly, and those who knew him will undoubtedly have a "Dewy story"—or two—that will be told, laughed about, and remembered for years to come.

Duane was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, James and Arlene; his brother, Jimmy; and his sister, Cindy.

He is survived by his children, Dion, Dale, Chris, Sandra, Sheila, Danny, and Kayla; his siblings, Arden (Linda) Warner and Cheryl (Paul) Lunde; brother in law Keith Smith; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his nieces and nephews, who were a deeply important part of his life; and the many extended family members and friends whose paths crossed with his over the years.

Duane leaves behind a family that grew beautifully through the many chapters of his life, countless memories, a lifetime of stories, and a laugh that will be impossible to forget. Somewhere, we’d like to think, that big Dewy laugh is still echoing.
