Duane Leon (Son Son) Littlewind, 45, of the Spirit Lake Tribe, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Crow Hill Rec Center Fort Totten, ND with Fr. Steven Meyer celebrating. A Wake will be held at Crow Hill Rec Center on Thursday, July 30, 2020 beginning at 5:00 PM with Rosary Service at 7:00 PM followed by Vigil Service. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Rec Center. Burial will be in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. The Procession to Crow Hill Rec Center will leave from the Highway 57 /281 Junction at 5:00 PM on Thursday afternoon.

Duane “Son Son” was born October 19th, 1980 in Devils Lake, ND the son of Duane Leon McDonald & Lavina Littlewind. Son Son was an enrolled tribal member of the Spirit Lake Tribe. He started his education at Four Winds and continued at the Cankdeska Cikana Community College. Where he completed his GED and received his Carpentry Certificate on May 14, 2021. He loved to play softball.  He was employed at the Spirit Lake Casino for several years and worked for S.M.C. He was baptized in the Seven Dolor’s Catholic Church.

Duane “Son Son” was a humble and kind-hearted man who treated everyone with respect and compassion. He believed in lending a helping hand whenever someone was in need, never expecting anything in return. His gentle spirit, quiet strength, and caring nature touched the lives of many. Son Son’s kindness and willingness to help others will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the kindness he shared so freely.
