Career/Certifications

Earl is a world-renowned presenter of the Lakota Language and Songs, He participated in many cultural events throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.  He has over 45 years of teaching experience from college level to Elementary. Also, as a consultant in the private sector and television and movies and Is the founding and lead singer for the Common Man Singers (Ikceya Wicasa).  He was a researcher and historian of Lakota/Dakota songs. He was very adamant that singers should know the origins and history of the song they sing and give acknowledgement of the composer.

Earl had many fond memories of growing up with his friends, playing his favorite sports of football and basketball.  He held a SD State football title for many years.  Learning his culture, songs and traditional teachings from his LaLa Barney, may other elders and singers of many Tribal Nations.  Earl enjoyed fishing, long car ride storytelling to his grandchildren and attending their sports events.  He had great memories of learning mechanic and engine work with his father-in-law, Cap.  His most exciting and fun time was working with his PA systems, wiring, set up and enjoying the pow-wows.  He was very honored to compose songs requested by families and individuals.  Drum making was his passion he took very serious but had funny stories with that too.  He enjoyed a cup of soup anytime.  His last venture he was looking forward to was setting up a new workspace for his history work and new recordings.  He was gifted with creating unique and special individual memoires with so many people they will all get to hold with them.

He is survived by his long-life love Peggy L. Cavanaugh, Daughters Mary Ann (Rico) Bullhead   Garcia-(Hailey Suazo, Kiyahn Bullhead, Diego Nahbahe Suazo); Inila Bullhead- (Alynna Jordan  Norquay): daughter Amorette Bullhead (Kevana, (Gilbert) , Mary, Nilus Bullhead); Son Leland Bullhead -(Taywan , Kiari, Lalina, Matheau, Jah-Kye, Zavuire and Daralyn BullCheif);     daughter Kateri Bullhead ( Isnala Bullhead, Emilano, Rosabella and  Evalynn Zapata-Bullhead; Adopted Daughter Loretta Duboius (Lionna Dubois and Tyreese Whitebuffalo); son Jared Yankton (Jameson, Morgan, Sage and Tristan Yankton;  Nieces, Nephews - Taylor Salas (Teylor Talley); Sara Salas- (Jerome Talley and Jestice Talley); Thalia FlyingHorse-(Taya  Howard, Karma Dakota Salas, Caiden Demery, Ava Velia,   KaReana, Sundance Cody, and Sunset Sage Walls).
