Edward B. Gumeringer's Obituary
Edward B. Gumeringer, 85, of Esmond, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 28th, 2013, 11:00 AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with Fr. Brian Bachmeier, celebrant and Robert Black, lector. The gift bearers are Adam Gumeringer and Kiah Gumeringer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by the Esmond VFW Post #4251, Neathery-Simensen VFW Post #756 of Devils Lake and members of the North Dakota Military Honors Team. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 5 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Rosary followed by a 7:30 PM Parish Vigil. Serving as casket bearers: Ron Gumeringer, Wayne Hager, Todd Keller, Robert Black, Dean Black and Jerry Black. Music will be from Helen Arnold, organist. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
Edward B. Gumeringer was born March 28, 1928 in Esmond, ND, to Joseph and Margaret (Klein) Gumeringer. He grew up and lived in Pierce County all of his life. He served in the US Army at the Panama Canal from 1951 – 1953. Upon his return home, he started farming. On July 25, 1955, he married Mary Ellen Donahue in Bowbells, ND. Together they raised their children: Janie (Brad) Lee of Park Rapids, MN, Gary of Esmond, ND, Lorrie (Jerry) Thoemke of Fargo, ND, Guy of Esmond, ND, Connie (Todd) Koenig of Roseau, MN and Paul (Jessica) also of Roseau, MN.
In the 70's Ed started raising registered Holsteins. He was on the Alexander Township Board for 54 years. Along with his twin brother, Edmond, they received the Government Grass Roots Leadership Award in 2008 for exhibiting the highest standard of dedication, ability and service as township officers. Ed also did custom grain hauling, raised beef cattle and was involved with the Esmond VFW Post #4251. He enjoyed watching boxing. One of the highlights of his life was meeting and visiting with Sugar Ray Leonard.
There was nothing more important than faith and family to Ed. He treasured the time he got to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to play the harmonica and always had the coffee pot on for visitors.
Ed is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, twin brother Edmond (Leah) Gumeringer of Esmond, sister Delores (Edmund) Hager of Balta, ND, and brother William (Cathy) Gumeringer of Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Margaret; sisters: Betty Black and Judy Austin; brothers: Frank, Ray and Bert and 2 infant brothers: Jacob and George.

As a younger brother of Ed's, we did have fun moments, as I can recall, when growing up in the countryside he enjoyed immensely. I'm sure he leaves a heartache no one can heal, and to be sure love leaves a memory no one can take away. We must all be sure he left some great imprints, upon the hearts of many - especially his family. William J. Gumeringer
