Elna B. Haagenson, 86, of Devils Lake, ND and formerly of Minnewaukan, ND passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Lu Mathison officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service to follow on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Trinity Free Lutheran Church. Burial will be held at the Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery in Minnewaukan, ND. Music will be provided by Courtney Pederson, Rhonda Thompson Gilpatrick and Rita Thompson Halvorson. Pall Bearers will be all of Elna's grandsons: Randy Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Ben Haagenson, Nathan Haagenson, Stephen Haagenson, Daniel Haagenson, Corey Pederson, Cameron Pederson; Step Grandson, Kyle Eisenzimmer and Great Grandsons: Michael Tofsrud and Christopher Tofsrud. Honorary Pall Bearers will be all of Elna's granddaughters: Cindy Huffman, Rhonda Thompson Gilpatrick, Rita Thompson Halvorson, Brenda Severson, Kari Tofsrud, Sara Wallace, Hannah Hamlet, Bethany Konzek, Gretta Haagenson and Courtney Pederson.
Elna B. Peterson was born November 1, 1930 in Maddock, ND, the daughter of Lawrence and Ellen (Haagenstad) Peterson. She attended school at Flora, ND and later at Minnewaukan and graduated from High School in 1948. On September 11, 1949 Elna was united in marriage to Fred Pederson. They lived in Leeds, ND for several years and later in Minnewaukan. Fred passed away April 22, 1965. She later married Boyd Haagenson. They made their home and farmed north of Minnewaukan and spent many winters in Weslaco, TX. Boyd passed away September 22, 2010.
Elna was a charter member of Trinity Free Lutheran Church and its WMF where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a member of Town and Country Homemakers for many years. Elna enjoyed music, gardening and flowers.
Elna is survived by two sons, David (Lori) Pederson of Washburn, ND and Brian (Marla) Pederson of New Town, ND; one step-daughter, Becky (Ronnie) Thompson of Minnewaukan, ND; two step-sons, Rev. Larry (Jan) Haagenson of Loveland, CO and Paul Haagenson of Fargo, ND; 3 grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 37 step-great grandchildren; 7 step-great great grandchildren; brother, Harlen (Esther) Peterson of Culver, OR; sisters-in-law, Jean Peterson, Opal Campbell, Marlene Tollefson, Marlys Johnson; brother-in-law, Art Erfle and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ellen (Haagenstad) Peterson; husband, Boyd Haagenson; son, Randy Pederson; grandson, Allan Tofsrud; sister, Janice Erfle; brothers, Lyle Peterson and Gerald Peterson; first husband, Fred Pederson; step-daughter, Sandra Tofsrud; step-son, David Haagenson; step-grandson, Jeremiah Haagenson.
