Erliss Ann "Annie" Schmid, 76, of Devils Lake, ND and formerly of Minnewaukan, ND passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake, ND. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Luther 'Lu' Mathison officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Minnewaukan Cemetery.

Erliss Ann "Annie" Bratvold was born on December 14, 1940, in Maddock, ND, to Emil and Agnes (Engen) Bratvold as the youngest of six children. At an early age she moved with her family to a farm near Hatton, ND, where she grew up. She graduated as the Salutatorian of the Hatton High School Class of 1958, where she participated in many activities, and was the piano accompanist for many musical performers. She attended Mayville State Teacher's College for one year (1958-59), finishing with a secretarial certificate.

She worked in Bottineau County and for the Ramsey Country Treasurer until her marriage to Byron Brenno on December 7th, 1959. From this union their three children (Sara, Timothy, and Amy) were born. They moved to a family farm near Brinsmade where they had their farming operation. In 1975 Annie began working in several offices in the Benson County Courthouse in Minnewaukan before starting a long career with the Benson County Abstract Company as a licensed abstracter, working there from July 1977 through December 1991.

On September 24, 1988 she married George Gregor Schmid in Minnewaukan, where they continued to make their home. They moved into the Heartland Courts Assisted Living Facility in Devils Lake in July 2012 and later into the Heartland Care Center.

Annie was a long-time piano teacher and accompanist, teaching many young people how to play piano, accompanying many school and local performing groups, and playing for many church services through the years. In addition to her musical interests, she was also active in the women's groups in several churches and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting and sewing, and putting puzzles together, and hosting many visits from her grandchildren throughout the years. She enjoyed helping organize and host many Independence Day gatherings of the Engen sisters/daughters and their extended families — a family tradition that still goes on today.

Annie is survived by her children: Sara J. Plum of Maddock, Timothy (Devonna) Brenno of Devils Lake, and Amy Randle of Grand Forks; step-children Deborah (Wayne) Hansel of Charleston, SC, Mary (Richard) Aiken of Springfield, MO, Donald (Barb) Schmid of Bismarck, Pamela (Steve) Moritz of Salt Lake City, UT, Mark Schmid of Grand Forks, and Margo Ewing of Minot; grandchildren Angela (Josh) Clarke, Andrew Nielsen(Stacey Forman), and Adam Nielsen (Taylor Rabon), Megan (Mark) Woodrow, Ashley (Ben) Myrum, and Andrea (Chris) Bell, Nick Randle, and Alex Randle; twelve step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and by sisters Alice Knutson and Opal Groff of Harlow, ND, and Clarice Ovrid Larson of Simi Valley, CA, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and their extended families.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, her brothers Elmer and Orlyn Bratvold, her brothers-in-law Bernard Knutson, Walter Groff, and Theodore Ovrid, sister-in-law Erna Bratvold, and by several nieces and nephews.
