Eunice Bengson, 89, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Esmond and Minnewaukan, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Bethany on University in Fargo.
Born Eunice Irene Halvorson on May 22, 1925, the daughter of Albert Jackson and Inga Christine (Djoseland) Halvorson, Eunice was raised with several brothers and sisters on a farm in Isabel Twp., ND where she was baptized, confirmed and married at the Immanuel Lutheran Church nearby. Many family gatherings were enjoyed in these two very special places of memory, to include weddings, funerals, anniversary celebrations and family gatherings. In her young adulthood, Eunice lived for a short time in Balboa, California as a nanny for a friend. With every intention to remain in California, she returned to North Dakota, to "tie up some loose ends." The Lord had other plans for her when she met Ward E. Bengson on a blind date at Roberts Lake on July 4, 1945 nearby Esmond, ND. After a whirlwind romance, they "tied the knot" and were united in marriage at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 2, 1945. They were married 53 years at the time of Ward's death.
Three children were born to them, and raised on their beloved "Farm by the Side of the Road" rural Esmond, ND, where they engaged in farming. The farmyard was a buzz of activity, where passerby and friends frequently stopped in to see the latest project in the making. Eunice enjoyed all sorts of crafts, from sewing, knitting, general crafts, gardening, baking, cooking new recipes. The freezer was always full and ready for the next guests to be entertained. Many friends and relatives, children and grandchildren were recipients of her handmade items and were guests around her table. She was the "wind beneath her husband's wings" and encouraged him to use his talents, which were many. She enjoyed the attention he was given and was the strength that made him fly. Now, she attends that special banquet in Heaven, as the guest of honor, into the welcoming arms of Jesus. She is released from Earth's pain and sorrow. She is once again young and beautiful, happy, and united with the love of her life.
She is survived by her son John (Christine) Bengson, of Moorhead, MN and daughter Bonnie (Alan) Anderson, Fargo, ND, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Evelyn Miller of Penn, ND and Dallas Ellingson of Bismarck, ND, several nieces and nephews and friends.
Eunice is preceded in death by her husband, Ward Bengson, son, Kim Bengson, parents, several brothers (Olaf, Geno, Alvin, Leo, and Norris Halvorson) and sisters, (Manda Hogenson, Audrey Halvorson, Viola Christianson and Clarine Halvorson) aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. What a wonderful reunion she is enjoying in Heaven! Blessed be her memory.
Visitation is at the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond, ND on July 2, 2014 from 5pm to 7pm.
Funeral Services will be held on July 3, 2014 at the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond, at 11:00 am.
Interment will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Esmond following the service.

I was so sorry to read about Auntie Eunice's passing. I hadn't seen her for some time, but I remember she was always a lot of fun to visit with. I have never forgotten Thanksgiving at the Bengson farm and watching the Wizard Of Oz with all of the family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her children and grandchildren. She will be missed. Gail Ellingson
