Eunice Sandven, 96, of Leeds, ND passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Devils Lake, ND. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery in rural York, ND.
Eunice C. Sandven was born on April 5, 1920, the oldest of seven children, to K.B. and Elvira Sandven on the family farm south of York, ND. Eunice was baptized and confirmed at the St. Petri Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid until the church closed. She currently was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church. Eunice attended Beaver School #2 and graduated from Leeds High School in 1938. She furthered her education and attended college at NDSU and Concordia, graduating from Concordia in 1942. Upon graduating, Eunice was employed as a Home Economics teacher for 2 years at the BCATS in Maddock, ND.
Eunice was a Registered Dietician at the Daytona Memorial Hospital in Dayton, OH, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN and at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, ND. After her retirement, she returned to the family farm to care for her parents. Eunice and her sister, Lois, purchased the Dr. A.B. Lund home in Leeds, ND and after an extensive addition, they moved in 1971. She and her sisters had many road trips around the U.S. Eunice also traveled to England, Norway and several European countries.
Eunice is survived by her brother-in-law, William (Bill) Hansen of Brainerd, MN; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Sandven of Eden Prairie, MN; several nieces, nephews and her special Min-pin, Shasta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, K.B and Elvira Sandven; her sisters, Lois Barnes, Signe O'Keefe and Rebecca Hansen; her brothers, Kenneth, Olger and Roger Sandven.
