Obituary

Evelyn J. Jones, 88, of Devils Lake, ND, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 25th, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 29th, 2009, 10:30AM  at Zion Lutheran Brethren Church in Maddock with Pastor Lu Mathison officiating and a special reading from Brandi Weed.

Burial will be in the Stony Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Minnewaukan.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7pm  at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Wednesday at the church an hour before the funeral.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons:  Layle Hanson,  Brian Hanson,  John Hanson,  Jeremy Hanson,  Joel Hanson,  Elliot Jones,  Jason Jones and Edward Jones.

Music will be from Renee Gilderhus, Paul Odden and Alyssa Manning, vocalists with Jennifer Hagen, pianist.

Evelyn J. Jones was born September 11, 1920, to John and Elizabeth (Stein) Vang on the family farm near Stony Lake, rural Minnewaukan.  She attended  Aurora Country School and Minnewaukan High School.  Evelyn married Francis Jones on March 4th, 1949 at Minnewaukan.  The couple lived on the farm until moving to Maddock in 1965.  Francis died September 27th, 1978.  Evelyn continued living in Maddock until 1983, when she moved to an apartment in Devils Lake.  In 2007, it became necessary for Evelyn to became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.

She worked hard as a farmer's wife, and dedicated her entire life to her family. Evelyn also cared for her aging father until his death in 1983.  Evelyn was a special loving Mom and Grandma.  She loved to see her grandchildren and was so very proud of them.  Her family will miss her famous meatballs and gravy,  chocolate chip cookies and birthday picnics in the park.  She was always there whenever her daughters and grandchildren needed her.

Surviving are three daughters:  Joyce (Glenn) Hanson of Devils Lake,  Barbara (Don) Davis of Grand Forks and Marilyn Tandeski (Clayton McCloud) of Devils Lake;  16 grandchildren;  3 step-grandchildren;  25 great-grandchildren;  8 great-great-grandchildren;  special nephew:  Delno (Peggy) Kindem of Grand Forks and a niece: Maxine (Charles) Brickner of Rice Lake, WI.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents;  husband and a granddaughter:  Cindy Lou Jones.
